Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 Facelift Makes Its Malaysian Debut

This updated Mercedes-Benz compact crossover lands locally costing RM 258,888. 

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has recently debuted a facelifted version of its GLA over here. Landing locally in a sole GLA 200 guise thus far, this particular mid-life update for the German compact crossover brings with it some minor exterior enhancements and a couple of new tech toys. 

Starting with the changes to the outside first, this facelifted GLA naturally nets a slightly different front end. A new black-accented grille supposedly now further ‘enhances the powerful character’ of this compact crossover, while Mercedes-Benz is claiming for the newly-redesigned bumper with visual under-ride protection ‘points to the new GLA’s off-road genes’.

Aside from the changes up front, the GLA also now nets a rear bumper that has since been fitted with a new diffuser, ‘to further accentuating the sportiness of its exterior’. New to this compact crossover is the availability Spectral Blue metallic paint option, which nicely complements its stock 18-inch tremolite grey 5-twin-spoke light alloy wheels.

Moving on inside now, this refreshed GLA gains a new leather-trimmed multifunction sports steering wheel with touch-control panels. The latest-generation of MBUX operating system is also to be running on the twin 10.25-inch digital instrument display and instrument cluster within this compact crossover, with it further featuring too wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. 

The facelifted GLA is currently equipped with electrically-adjustable front comfort seats upholstered in ARTICO synthetic leather, with the Star Pattern trim elements supposedly ‘creating exciting contrasts’ within this predominantly black cabin. It also comes as standard with a 64 colour Ambient Lighting feature and the USB Package Plus, which adds 5 illuminated fast-charging USB-C ports to the interior of this compact crossover.

Other packages featured in the facelifted GLA worth mentioning includes the KEYLESS-GO Comfort Package, Mirror Package and its Parking Package that brings with it a reverse camera. This compact crossover is to be had with a suite of safety features too, which includes Active Parking Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Exit Warning Assist and Active Brake Assist, TIREFIT, a tyre pressure monitoring system and GUARD 360° Vehicle protection. 

Moreover, the facelifted GLA 200 further nets Dynamic Select drive mode selector incorporates Comfort, Eco, Sport driving modes. Driving the front wheels though of this facelifted compact crossover continues to be the same 1.3 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 163 hp and 250 Nm. Mated to seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, Mercedes-Benz claims for a century sprint time of 8.9 seconds, with a top speed of 210 km/h.

Locally-assembled in its Pekan plant in Pahang, the facelifted GLA 200 lands locally wearing a price tag of RM 258,888.
