CKD BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence To Arrive Soon

Registration of interests for this locally assembled BMW X7 however are now open.

BMW Malaysia has recently previewed the locally assembled variant of its X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence. The latest in the long line of CKD BMWs, the assembly of its flagship SUV over here supposedly serves as continued affirmation by the Bavarian automaker that Malaysia has the potential to be ‘a regional hub for the luxury automobile segment’.

Speaking more of the car itself, the locally assembled X7 retains much the same specs as its fully-imported counterpart that was launched over here last year. Starting from the outside, this luxury German SUV features an equally large kidney grille up front that are flanked on each side by BMW Laserlight headlights with high-beam assistant and LED fog lights down below.

Moving further down the side, its enormous (over 5-metre long) side profile is capped off on either end by 21-inch Y-spoke light alloy wheels that are the same as its fully-imported brethren. Round the back meanwhile, the X7 comes as standard with fully-electric tailgate, which sits above two large rectangular tail pipes on either end of the highly-polished rear skid plate.

Connected to the tail pipes up front under that long hood is the same sufficiently large 3.0 litre turbocharged straight six that sends its 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque to all four wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission. In terms of performance stats, this translates to a rather impressive 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 245 km/h.

Nevertheless, what is perhaps even more impressive about this 2.3 tonne behemoth is its suspension technology. That is because not only is there two-axle air suspension and BMW’s Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system which enable it to tackle corners with relative flatness, this locally assembled X7 also retains the imported car’s army of electronics like its Executive Drive Pro with active roll stabilisation and Dynamic Damper Control (DDC) system that utilises the front camera and navigation to ensure the smoothest possible ride in this large luxury SUV.

On the topic of tech, there is certainly no shortage of it within the Vernasca leather-trimmed interior of this tech-laden SUV too. In fact, it comes with the same amount of kit as the fully-imported model.

Kicking off with the screens firsts, the X7 comes as standard with twin 12.3-inch screens and a heads-up display. All of which run on BMW’s Operating System 7.0 with integrated voice-controlled BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and BMW Gesture Control.

Continuing onto the luxury features, this three-row luxo-SUV comes as standard with five-zone air conditioning, electric roller blinds for side windows, a large Panorama Roof Sky Lounge as well as a full suite of active driver aids courtesy of the BMW Personal CoPilot technology. Soft close doors and a Harman Kardon Surround Sound System with 16 loudspeakers are just the cherry on top of this long, long list of fancy features.

Now having said all that, the only discernible difference therefore between this locally-assembled X7 and its made-in-USA cousin will be the price. Costing only RM 708,000, it is to be a good chunk lower than the RM 861,847 (inclusive of SST exemption) the fully imported X7 currently retails for.

Order books have yet to be opened for this locally-assembled luxo-SUV. BMW Malaysia has however allowed eager prospective customers to register their interests through its official website instead.

PRESS RELEASE: BMW Group Malaysia today previewed the locally assembled variant of the All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence – reaffirming their investments in the local automotive landscape through one of the brand’s many progressive pillars.

Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia said, “The Story of Progressive Luxury is one of the many guiding pillars that continues to serve as an anchor in times of disruption and compass in times of uncertainty for the BMW brand. In 2020, we looked towards innovative local entrepreneurs as inspiration in redefining the meaning of luxury in such an unprecedented era. The All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence is testament to our continued support for the local automotive landscape, as we welcome the luxury Sports Activity Vehicle to our portfolio of locally assembled vehicles in Malaysia.”

After the extensive introduction of many high-profile locally assembled vehicles in the past year – including the BMW 218i Gran Coupé, the BMW 330e M Sport, and the BMW M340i xDrive – the move to localise the assembly of the largest model in the BMW X range further demonstrates the premium automaker’s longstanding confidence in Malaysia’s potential as a regional hub for the luxury automobile segment.

The All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence is an exemplification of luxury within the BMW brand, and is a sophisticated statement on its own. The variant’s imposing appearance and stature, designed with comfort and luxury at its heart, belies the versatility and agility that are characteristic of a BMW X model. With its outstanding powertrain and chassis technology, the All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence offers an unparalleled driving and interior experience.

The paradigm of luxury and authority.

The All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence retains its iconic bold and immaculate design. The massive front with the imposing kidney grille lends an exceptional road presence to the vehicle, along with the slender BMW Laserlight headlights that can illuminate up to 600 metres ahead. Available as standard also are the LED fog lights and high-beam assistant.

From the side, the near-vertical shoulder line visually elongates the All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence from the front to rear – with large windows and a long, dynamically flowing roofline that hints at a spacious interior. Equally striking are the 21-inch light alloy wheels in Y-spoke style 753 Bicolour with run-flat tyres, available as standard. The variant also features a fully-electric tailgate in the rear with the Comfort Access feature, and two large, rectangular tailpipes – one on each side, conveying its immense power.

Formidable engines, hallmark BMW dynamics.

The All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence also retains the powerful six-cylinder in-line petrol engine capable of a maximum power of 250kW/ 340hp, and a peak torque of 450Nm. This results in a century sprint completed in 6.1 seconds. All of these are achieved with a combined fuel consumption of 9.5l/100km and a combined carbon emission of 218g/km.

Power is channelled to all four wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. The xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system of the luxury SAV maximises traction, agility and handling stability which links up with the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) feature. Included in the sophisticated chassis design of the variant is a two-axle air suspension. With the DSC system, the vehicle load registered by the air suspension sensors can also be factored into braking modulation.

Like the imported variant, the locally assembled variant of the All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence is offered with the innovative Executive Drive Pro with active roll stabilisation. Ride comfort is further enhanced by the Dynamic Damper Control system, which is able to process data from the navigation system and front camera.

Luxurious interior design with integrated technology.

The interior of the All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence also features the opulent “Crafted Clarity” handmade diamond-cut trim element and a range of standard equipment including a sport leather steering wheel and electrically adjustable comfort seats with active seat ventilation in front.

The BMW Live Cockpit Professional with BMW Operating System 7.0 combines the fully digital, user-configurable 12.3-inch instrument cluster with an equally large central Control Display with touchscreen functionality. The BMW Head-Up Display is also located within field of vision. The variant is also fitted with the voice-controlled BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and BMW Gesture Control.

Other highlights include the Welcome Light Carpet feature, five-zone air conditioning, a Harman Kardon Surround Sound System with 16 loudspeakers and electric roller blinds for side windows. The Rear Entertainment Professional system is also available within the locally assembled variant, while the sheer spaciousness is further enhanced by the large Panorama Roof Sky Lounge.

The All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence also features soft-close function for doors. Space is offered to the luxury SAV via a versatile 325-litre luggage compartment that can be maximised up to 2,120 litres with the backrests folded down.

Advanced connectivity meets sporting luxury.

The All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence is equipped with the BMW Personal CoPilot technology, that includes the Parking Assistant Plus with automatic manoeuvring in and out of parallel parking spaces, along with the Reversing Assistant to assist in safely manoeuvring out of a tight parking space.

The Driving Assistant has been outfitted with a comprehensive range of functions, tailored to allow full ease of mind when on the drive. They include Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Warning and front collision warning with brake intervention. As a welcome addition, the All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence also comes with Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function and Integral Active Steering, further enhancing the safety and comfort of the drive. Other innovative features include the BMW Digital Key, wireless charging for mobile phones, as well as smartphone integration that are available as standard equipment for the locally assembled variant.

The All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence is offered in five exterior finishes to complement its sophisticated stature, with selected interior colour combinations. The exterior colours of Black Sapphire and Sophisto Grey come in Cognac Leather Vernasca upholstery with Black design perforations, while Phytonic Blue and Manhattan Metallic exteriors come complete with an all-Black design-perforated Leather Vernasca interior. Lastly, Leather Vernasca in Coffee with Black design perforations comes exclusively with the Mineral White model.
