Jaecoo Sets Its Sights On The CR-V With Its Upcoming J7 SUV

A strong initial market response to its J7 has boosted Jaecoo’s confidence to tout as much anyway.

There is soon to be another challenger to the Honda CR-V’s C-segment SUV throne in town, and Jaecoo looks to be rather confident in its upcoming J7 SUV posing a real contender against that aforementioned ever-popular Goliath in the market.

Alluding to the market’s early reaction to the brand, Jaecoo Malaysia President, Leo Chen, stated, “Jaecoo is enjoying a lot of interest here in Malaysia. We believe that the Jaecoo brand is very much in line with Malaysia’s emerging group of trailblazers who enjoy an active lifestyle and appreciate a vehicle that performs on any terrain with an impressive off-road driving experience. And this is exactly what we aim to deliver.”

Jaecoo Malaysia Vice-President, Emily Lek, further elaborated about market opportunity for the up and coming Chinese marque, “Jaecoo’s debut is timely as Malaysia experiences growing demand for SUVs. We believe Jaecoo is well positioned as a strong challenger in the C-segment SUV market, in line with the positive sentiments from prospect customers.”

This local C-segment SUV offensive of Jaecoo’s will be spearheaded by its J7, with its maiden launch scheduled for the first half of 2024. The automaker currently touts for this upcoming offering to ‘embrace a spirit of adventure and resilience with refined style seen from its warship-inspired door handles, panoramic sunroof, fighter jet-inspired gear shifter and distinguished columnar “waterfall” grille.’

Elevating safety with forward-thinking intelligent technologies, Jaecoo further highlights for its upcoming J7 to be stuffed with up to 21 smart driving functions from its advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). This includes a windshield head-up-display (W-HUD) with built-in front dash cam, a 14.8-inch portrait-oriented central infotainment screen, 50 W wireless charging pad with cooler and many other creature comforts ensuring that customers are not only provided with the highest level of safety but also luxury comfort.

Under the hood of this J7 meanwhile lies a 1.6 TGDI turbocharged four-cylinder that packs 197 PS and 290 Nm, with said power being sent to all of its wheels through a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. Jaecoo currently claims for this SUV to be capable the century sprint in a respectable 8 seconds, while returning a decent 7.48 l/100 km WLTP-rated consumption rating.

Guided by the brand philosophy of “From Classic, Beyond Classic,” Jaecoo proclaims for the J7 to aim in becoming an urban off-road SUV that highlights “more than cars.” This upcoming C-segment SUV is further rumoured to be joined by its larger and plusher J8 sibling by the end of 2024, with it to apparently be complimented by the 20 dealerships that should be already open nationwide by then.

Malaysians are currently invited to preview the J7 at the Jaecoo Premiere Experience from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Desa Park City, K.L: 7th to 17th March 2024
