GAC GS3 Emzoom Scores Full 5-Star Rating From ASEAN NCAP
The GAC GS3 Emzoom obtained the full 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating with a cumulative score of 88.39 points.
Hot on the heels of Chery putting their first model through the ASEAN NCAP program and coming away with the full 5-star rating on its Omoda 5, GAC has since also managed to achieve the same satisfactory result with its GS3 Emzoom. This compact crossover from the Chinese automaker is its first to be put through the most recent 2021-2025 protocol, and has attained a cumulative weighted score of 88.39 points.
Now going from the crash test footage here, the GS3 Emzoom tested by ASEAN NCAP appears to be the lesser Exclusive variant instead of the top-tier Premium R trim. It has also been noted that this compact crossover assessed was made in China for the Malaysian market, and not the locally-assembled example that has just started rolling out from Segambut.
Delving further into the assessment results itself meanwhile, the GS3 Emzoom scored a weighted 36.60 points in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category and 16.43 points in Child Occupant Protection (COP) category. Data obtained from the frontal crash test dummy showed that there was marginal protection to the driver’s chest, while both of the occupant’s lower legs received adequate protection. The compact crossover secured 17.86 points in the Safety Assist (SA) assessment category, and it attained 17.50 points under the Motorcyclist Safety (MS) category.
In terms of standard safety features, all two variants of the GS3 Emzoom available locally come equipped with six airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) for frontal seats occupants, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) City, AEB Inter-Urban, AEB Pedestrian, Blind Spot Visualization (BSV) for both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle, Auto High Beam (AHB) and Pedestrian Protection (PP) technology.
Both variants also net a comprehensive suite of active driver aids that include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Traffic Sign Recognition System (TSR), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Intelligent Speed Limit Control (ISLC). Only the top-end Premium R trim however come with High Beam Assist (HBA) and GAC’s Fusion Automatic Parking Assist (FAPA) feature.
Distributed locally by Warisan Tan Chong Automotif (WTCA), the Exclusive and Premium R variants of the GS3 Emzoom currently retail in Malaysia costing RM 118,900 and RM 128,900 respectively. Both variants of this compact crossover are to be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, which has been touted to send 177 PS and a supposed best-in-class torque output of 270 Nm through to the front wheels via a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.
