Infiniti QX50 Facelift Adds New Features And A New Colour

More standard equipment comes to Infiniti’s premium mid-sized crossover.

While Infiniti may not be the first choice for any prospective buyer in the market for a premium mid-sized crossover, its QX50 SUV is still a pretty good car in any respect. A car now made even more appealing with the addition of more standard kit with this mild facelift.

A complete blank-slate design that debut in 2019, not much has been tweaked on the exterior front during this facelift, if at all. The only notable addition to the exterior of the QX50 will probably the new Mineral Black exterior colour option. That said, this two year old design still looks just as sharp and striking as the day it was unveiled. Although a slight hint of Mazda may be detected in the overall silhouette of this Japanese SUV.

Most of the enhancements with this facelift has in fact been added to the interior of the QX50. Acoustic laminated front side glass is now standard across the range, to improve cabin insulation. An in-car Wi-Fi hotspot has also been added in all variants, in addition to a host of safety features like rear seat-mounted side-impact airbags and Automatic Collision Notification with emergency call.

Available in 5 trim levels, each with the option of front or intelligent all-wheel drive, additional variant-specific standard kit has been added to the QX50 by Infiniti during the facelift. With the second-from-base LUXE trim gaining the most standard equipment this time round.

Heated front seats are now standard on this trim level, as are a whole host of active driver aids like Intelligent Cruise Control, Distance Control Assist, Blind Spot Intervention, Lane Departure Prevention and ProPILOT assist. Furthermore, the QX50 LUXE trim is also offered with the optional Appearance Package, adding 20-inch black alloy wheels, black mirror caps, chrome accent trim pieces, a black mesh grille and a graphite headliner within the cabin.

Continuing up the 2021 QX50 range, the QX50 ESSENTIAL adds Traffic Sign Recognition. Another step up to the QX50 SENSORY yields a heads-up display and the previously optional climate package. Capping off the lineup is the QX50 AUTOGRAPH trim level that now comes as standard with direct adaptive steering, and the tow package on the top-end all-wheel drive variant.

As with all this added kit across the range, the prices for the QX50 has inevitably gone up a fraction, with the starting price being raised by at least $700 (RM 2,900) across the range. Hence, the front wheel drive variants now retail from $37,950 (RM 158,000) for the base model QX50 PURE, while the all-wheel drive variants start at $39,950 (RM 166,000).

Currently available in Infiniti dealerships across North America, it will be unlikely that this premium SUV from Nissan’s luxury arm will ever make it to Malaysia. A shame really as it looks to be a good contender to the BMW, Mercedes and Lexus offerings locally.

PRESS RELEASE: The INFINITI QX50, which was completely redesigned for the 2019 model year, continues to be refined for 2021 and adds a number of enhancements, including additional standard content on various grade levels. For 2021, enhancements to the QX50 include a new Mineral Black exterior color option. Rear seat-mounted side-impact supplemental airbags and Automatic Collision Notification with emergency call, acoustic laminated front side glass, Wi-Fi Hotspot are newly standard across the model range.

The following technologies are now standard from 2021 QX50 LUXE: Heated front seats, Intelligent Cruise Control, Distance Control Assist, Blind Spot Intervention, Lane Departure Prevention and ProPILOT Assist.

The QX50 LUXE also offers an available Appearance Package, featuring additional aesthetic enhancements from the Edition 30 such as 20-inch black-painted wheels, black mirror caps, dark chrome accents, black grille mesh, and graphite headliner.
