Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is now available in South Africa
Earlier this year, Chery launched their flagship seven-seater SUV, the Tiggo 8 Pro in South Africa. Now fast forward two months ahead, and the automaker has decided to offer yet another model of their successful PRO series, the Tiggo 7 Pro. Although Malaysia is yet to get much love from Chery, it seems like they’re not afraid to try their luck in the African continent.
Chery are offering two variants of the Tiggo 7 Pro in South Africa – the Distinctive and Executive variants.
“At Chery we reserve the Pro moniker for our best SUVs, and the Tiggo 7 Pro is no exception. From the striking modern and flowing design to the all-digital cockpit, our customers will never feel like they have had to compromise on luxury, specifications or performance,” said Chery South Africa Executive Deputy General Manager Tony Liu.
Chery has launched the Tiggo 7 Pro in South Africa – the SUV slots in between the Tiggo 4 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro, which are already on sale there, and brings technology, luxury and modern design to South Africans through Distinctive and Executive variants.
The Tiggo 7 Pro shares many of its siblings’ aesthetic cues under the ‘Life in Motion’ design language, including a galaxy-inspired geometric matrix diamond front grille and elongated headlamps that run from it to the start of the sharply-creased shoulder line.
Quiet aggression comes courtesy of a deeply-scalloped lower bumper and air intakes, unique 18-inch alloys (with red brake callipers on the Executive variant) and a concave-to-convex curve in the side profile. The glasshouse is framed in black and chrome, emphasising the Tiggo 7 Pro’s sporty stance and creating a floating roof effect. The rear features an edge-to-edge lightbar tail lamp, while a roof spoiler and dual faux exhausts are standard.
Also standard are electrically-adjustable and foldable side mirrors with LED indicators, automatic LED head and tail lamps, LED-illuminated sills, wide-angle fog lamps, LED daytime running lamps, keyless entry and start, and a power tailgate with programmable height adjustment. The boot holds 475 litres, or up to 1,500 litres if the 60:40 back seats are folded down.
Under the bonnet is a Chery-developed 1.5 litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine. Equipped with direct injection, the powerplant sends 147 PS at 5,500 rpm and 210 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 4,500 rpm to the front wheels via an electronically-controlled CVT with nine virtual ratios. The Tiggo 7 Pro is underpinned by Chery’s award-winning lightweight and rigid T1X platform. Its wheelbase measures 2,670 mm; its overall length 4,500 mm.
Step inside to durable black synthetic leather with contrasting stitching and a six-way powered driver’s seat, with a four-way powered front passenger seat in the Executive variant. The leather-clad steering wheel features infotainment and voice command controls, and is adjustable in four directions.
There are three separate screens, including a seven-inch customisable digital instrument panel in front of the driver, and a 10.25-inch centre console LCD that incorporates vehicle information, infotainment, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth and reverse camera display. Below this sits a flush-mounted screen that integrates physical switches and the dual-zone climate control, which features surgical-level N95 air filtering.
Like other Pro models, the Tiggo 7 Pro comes standard with voice command that can control functions such as the climate control, one-touch electric windows and (on the Executive variant) the panoramic sunroof, while wireless charging and multiple-colour ambient lighting are also standard.
The Tiggo 7 Pro has a full five-star Chinese New Car Assessment Programme (C-NCAP) safety rating – all variants have ISOFIX, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assistance (EBA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD).
The Executive variant adds Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which encompasses functions including Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and a 360-degree around-view monitor. The Executive variant is also equipped with six airbags.
The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro comes with a five-year/60,000 km service plan, five-year unlimited mileage roadside assistance, five-year/150,000 km general mechanical warranty and offers a comprehensive 10-year/1,000,000 km engine warranty.
The Tiggo 7 Pro is among the Pro Family models currently being planned for Malaysia.
