Perodua Introduces UCar-e Mobility Service for University Students and Staff
App-based vehicle-sharing initiative supports flexible campus mobility while promoting entrepreneurship opportunities

Perodua has partnered with three local universities Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology, UTM-MJIIT) to introduce UCar-e, an app-based vehicle-sharing service designed specifically for students and university staff.
The initiative represents Perodua’s latest effort under its “Mobility as a Lifestyle” concept, which focuses on transforming mobility from conventional vehicle ownership into a more accessible, service-oriented transportation solution.
“We are initially providing 50 Perodua vehicles to these universities for use by students and staff, allowing them to conveniently book, access, and utilise the vehicles for travel within university grounds, including journeys between accommodations and lecture halls,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
The UCar-e initiative was recently launched at Inasis Perodua, UUM, during a ceremony attended by Dato’ Sri Zainal and UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Martadha Mohamed.
Through the UCar-e application, users can locate and reserve available vehicles parked at designated locations across campus. Dedicated parking zones are also provided to ensure vehicles can be returned conveniently after use.
“We want to make this experience as simple and hassle-free as possible for students and staff.
“Perodua is also working closely with participating universities to appoint students to manage the vehicles, including maintaining cleanliness, monitoring fuel levels, and ensuring proper upkeep. In return, these students will receive commission-based payments,” he added.
According to Dato’ Sri Zainal, the programme also incorporates entrepreneurship exposure and practical experience for students.
“By appointing students as vehicle management agents, we are providing valuable entrepreneurship training and real-world responsibilities that will help equip them with essential life skills,” he said.
The service is expected to begin operations in June 2026, with implementation taking place in phases based on each university’s readiness and rollout schedule.
The introduction of UCar-e forms part of Perodua’s broader strategy to expand its automotive ecosystem through innovative mobility services that align with changing consumer behaviour and lifestyle preferences.
“We recognise that many Gen Z consumers are increasingly prioritising mobility experiences over vehicle ownership. Rising maintenance costs, limited parking availability, and traffic congestion are encouraging younger users to explore more flexible transportation alternatives,” said Dato’ Sri Zainal.
With UCar-e, Perodua aims to provide a convenient, affordable, and technology-driven mobility solution while supporting the evolving transportation needs of Malaysia’s younger generation.
