Honda Malaysia Delivers 16 New Civics To The KPDNHEP

These 16 new base-spec Honda Civics are designated to be fleet vehicles for the ministry.

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has recently taken delivery of 16 Honda Civic 1.8S models courtesy of Honda Malaysia. To be used as fleet vehicles for the ministry, this marks the first time for the KPDNHEP to receive a model from the Japanese automaker.

Having said that, this is not the first time Hondas have been used as fleet vehicles in Malaysian ministries. In fact, just this year alone Honda Malaysia has delivered 40 units of the same base-spec Civics to the Royal Military Police Corp for law enforcement and policing duties, along with 425 units of these C-segment sedans to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to be used as new mobile patrol and enforcement vehicles.

Incidentally, all these new Civic models delivered to the various branches of the Malaysian government are of the recently facelifted variety that was launched in February of this year. The new facelift has brought with it a mildly redesigned exterior aesthetic, as well as some interior enhancements like a 7-inch central infotainment touchscreen, keyless-go with remote engine start, automatic wipers and an electric parking brake.

These particular base Civics are powered by a 141 PS/174 Nm 1.8 litre naturally-aspirated I-VTEC four-cylinder mated to a continuously variable transmission driving the front wheels, though there is a more powerful 173 PS/220 Nm turbocharged 1.5 litre engine available for the two higher-spec trim levels. These higher trim levels also feature the Honda LaneWatch blind spot monitor system. However it is only the top-tier trim level that is offered with a full suite of active safety aids as part of the Honda SENSING package.

According to Honda, over 10,400 units of these updated C-segment sedans have been sold locally as of October 2020. This impressive sales figure translates to the Civic leading the C-segment market here with a staggering 81% of the market share, not to mention being the 2nd best selling Honda model in Malaysia.

PRESS RELEASE: Honda Malaysia (or the Company) today announced the delivery of 16 units of the Civic 1.8S to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP), which has selected the Honda Civic to be used as fleet vehicles for the Ministry. This marks the first time that Honda Malaysia is presenting a Honda model to KPDNHEP.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Honda Malaysia, Mr. Toichi Ishiyama commented, “On behalf of Honda Malaysia, we are honored that the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs has chosen Civic as their preferred car in accomplishing their tasks and duties. We are also appreciative of the Ministry’s crucial role in promoting and sustaining domestic trade in Malaysia, which is important as we are still facing challenges to boost the Malaysian economy which was greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is encouraging to observe that all Malaysians are working together to overcome the setbacks and we sincerely hope that Malaysia will be on the road towards economic recovery soon.”

The facelifted 10th Generation Civic was introduced in the Malaysian market in February this year, offering D-segment features in a C-segment model. Since its launch, the Civic has sold more than 10,400 units, capturing 81% market share and leading the C-segment as of October 2020. The Civic is also currently the 2nd best-selling Honda model in Malaysia, well-known for its dynamic performance, excellent fuel economy and attractive looks.

The 1.8L i-VTEC engine offers a maximum power output of 141PS and maximum torque of 174Nm, which provides a balance of fun driving feel and excellent fuel efficiency. Additionally, the Civic also comes in a 1.5L VTEC Turbocharged variant which is equipped with the Next Generation Advanced Safety Features, the Honda SENSING. The Civic is certified as Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV).

Widely popular for its sleek exterior design and fastback styling, the 10th Generation facelifted Civic appears sporty and bold. To complete its overall package, the Civic is equipped with advanced features such as Electric Parking Brake (EPB), Walk Away Auto Lock, Remote Engine Start and 7” Advanced Display Audio.

Honda has always prioritized developing vehicle safety to reach the ultimate goal of a collision-free future. The Civic has been awarded with five-star safety rating by ASEAN NCAP and is equipped with top class safety features such as Six Airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Agile Handle Assist (AHA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA) and Auto Brake Hold (ABH).
