GWM Malaysia Records 177% Year-On-Year Sales Growth In 2025

The next big thing (quite literally) from GWM Malaysia is the imminent local debut of its Wey G9 luxury PHEV MPV.

While it may not be the most visible of the Chinese brands on Malaysian roads just yet, GWM Malaysia nevertheless actually quietly put together a very strong 2025. Such is as the automaker has just announced that it achieved an impressive 177% year-on-year increase in sales over here, with a total of 5,876 vehicles registered.

And just to put that figure into greater perspective, JPJ registration data currently places GWM as Malaysia’s 16th best-selling automotive brand for the year. Its cumulative sales impressively leaves it just 200 units shy of Nissan, while somehow interestingly still seeing it one spot behind Lexus.

A closer look at the numbers shows that GWM’s growth was largely driven by its performance in the hybrid segment. In fact in 2025, the brand ranked third overall among hybrid manufacturers in Malaysia, capturing a claimed 15.5% market share.

Leading its hybrid onslaught was naturally to be the Haval H6 HEV, with this sole hybrid offering of the brand continuing to anchor its local performance throughout the year. The model emerged as one of Malaysia’s best-selling hybrid vehicles, ranking second overall and accounting for 14.9% of the HEV market.

Beyond the Haval H6 HEV meanwhile, GWM Malaysia also maintained a relatively diversified product portfolio in 2025. Key introductions included the Tank 500 large luxury off-road SUV earlier in the year, followed by a refreshed version of the Ora Good Cat all-electric hatchback towards the year’s end.

Building on this momentum, GWM Malaysia is now preparing for the next phase of its hybrid strategy with the rollout of its Hi4 next-generation hybrid architecture. And the first model to showcase this technology locally will be the Wey G9 luxury people mover, which is expected to make its Malaysian debut soon with an estimated price below RM 300,000.

Malaysia will be the first market globally to receive the right-hand-drive version of the Wey G9. The model pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with a four-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission, supplemented by electric motors on both axles. Combined system output is rated at 442 PS and 642 Nm, enabling a claimed 0–100 km/h sprint time of just 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h.

Feeding said electric motors on the Wey G9 is to be a sizeable 44.2 kWh battery, which delivers up to 170 km of NEDC-rated electric-only range. DC fast charging at up to 60 kW allows a 30–80% recharge in 26 minutes, while a full AC charge from 15–100% using a 6.6 kW wallbox takes approximately 6.5 hours.

Looking at the bigger picture, GWM Malaysia’s strong local performance in 2025 mirrors the brand’s broader global momentum. The Chinese automaker recorded total sales of 1,323,672 vehicles worldwide in 2025, representing a 7.33% year-on-year increase. Overseas deliveries in turn reached 506,066 units, up 11.68% compared to 2024.

New energy vehicles were a major contributor to this growth, with global NEV sales rising 25.44% year-on-year to 403,653 units. In December alone, the company sold 124,020 vehicles globally, including 57,418 units overseas, marking a 39.05% year-on-year increase for the month.
