Volvo Extends Free Connect Plus Data Service To 22/23 Model Year Cars

This free one-year connectivity extension comes on top of the four free years plan initially offered by Volvo.

While the Volvo for Life tagline might traditionally refer to how these Scandinavian automobiles are built to be safe and durable enough to outlast their owners, it now appears that the saying also extends to connected services. Such is as in another premium-segment industry first, Volvo Car Malaysia has recently announced that it will be extending its complimentary Volvo Car Connect Plus data service by an additional year for eligible owners whose subscriptions are ending soon.

Previously known as Digital Services, Volvo Car Connect Plus is to be the data connectivity package offered with the latest generation of Google built-in Volvo cars. It enables tether-free media streaming, over-the-air software updates, and seamless integration with Google’s suite of services, including Google Assistant, Google Maps, and the Google Play Store.

When the first generation of Google built-in Volvo cars was launched in Malaysia, customers received four years of complimentary data connectivity. This offer has since been increased to five years, starting with the 2024 model year.

And to reward (aka placate) early adopters therefore, Volvo Car Malaysia has since announced it will extend the complimentary Connect Plus service by an additional year to bring those cars in line with the latest models. The extension will be applied automatically and does not require any software update or SIM card replacement.

Owners of model year 2022 and 2023 cars built on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) and first-generation Scalable Product Architecture (SPA1) platforms will be entitled to an additional year of free data subscription upon expiry of their current package.  The eligible models are as follows:

  SUV / Crossover Sedan Estate
Model year 2022 ·   XC40 Recharge Pure Electric

·   XC60

·   XC60 Recharge

·   S90 Recharge
Model year 2023 ·   C40

·   XC40

·   XC40 Recharge Pure Electric

·   XC60

·   XC60 Recharge

·   XC90

·   XC90 Recharge

·   S60 Recharge

·   S90 Recharge

·   V60 Recharge

Sun Qian, Head of Total Offer for Volvo Cars APeC region, commented, “The generous allocation of complimentary Volvo Car Connect Plus is our way of thanking our customers for their loyalty by letting them fully experience the benefits of our Google built-in cars. They can simply say ‘Hey Google’ to navigate to a destination or adjust the air conditioning – all without taking their eyes off the road.”

“Customers who were early adopters can now have peace of mind knowing that they, too, can enjoy a full five years of free data access without the hassle of subscribing to a new plan in the coming months,” she added.

Volvo Car Connect Plus plays a particularly vital role in the brand’s next generation of fully electric, software-driven models. With AI-powered core computing technology first introduced in the EX90 and set to feature in upcoming models like the ES90 and EX60, Connect Plus enables more data to be processed and analysed over the air – improving machine learning for next-level autonomous driving and real-world road safety scenarios.

Another noteworthy advantage is that Volvo Car Connect Plus subscriptions are linked to the vehicle rather than the owner. This means that if the car changes hands, any remaining validity period and data quota will be transferred to the new owner, further enhancing resale value.
