Refreshed GWM Ora Good Cat Now Open For Booking In Malaysia

This upcoming update to the all-electric Ora Good Cat will bring with it a sportier GT spec.

One of the pioneer EVs in Malaysia is soon to get an update, as GWM Malaysia has recently announced that a refreshed version of the Ora Good Cat will soon be upon us. And the big news with this admittedly Beetle-esque EV is that it won’t just be arriving in its regular form, as a sportier GT variant is also now open for bookings.

Now in terms of what is set to be changed first, the updated model set for launch will receive some light aesthetic enhancements. Though the blurred out teaser photo that came with the booking announcement did not show the refreshed bumper and much the same 18-inch alloys as the outgoing model, which does put into question if Malaysia will be receiving the more radical facelift as what was recently launched back in China.

The China-market facelifted Ora Good Cat.

In any case, what is indeed new is for all updated Good Cats to pack lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with an energy capacity of 57.7 kWh. This replaces the outgoing choice of 47.8-kWh LFP unit in the 400 Pro, and a 63.1-kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery in the 500 Ultra

This new battery is claimed to provide a range that sits neatly between the two outgoing versions, with the regular Good Cat claiming up to 480 km and the GT slightly less at 460 km. AC charging remains at 6.6 kW, while DC fast charging at up to 60 kW will replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in around 38 minutes.

The reason why the GT spec loses a bit of range is largely from it being outfitted with a more powerful electric motor at the front, which delivers 171 PS and 250 Nm of torque. The normal variant meanwhile makes do with 143 PS and 210 Nm of torque, not to mention misses out too on the sportier sibling’s launch control feature.

Other GT specific features include a sportier front bumper with larger (and largely decorative) corner air inlets, along with side skirts, and wheel arch surrounds that hide beneath it yellow-accented alloy wheels and similarly-yellow brake calipers. There’s also to be a cheeky rear boot spoiler round its rump, with yellow-stitched suede sports seats adding a touch of sportiness within.

Common across both variants is the rest of the equipment list, headlined by a seven-inch fully digital driver’s display and a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (Malaysia won’t be getting the larger 14.6-inch unit from the Chinese-spec model). Other tech highlights include Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera system, and connected telematics via the My GWM app.

First launched locally in November 2022, the Ora Good Cat has remained largely unchanged over the past three years, with the only notable update being the introduction of a new exterior colour and a matching two-tone interior in February last year.

As for pricing, the regular Good Cat is estimated to be priced below RM 115,000, while the GT is expected to come in under RM 125,000. For context, the outgoing range currently starts from RM 113,800 for the 400 Pro variant and RM 143,800 for the 500 Ultra.

Nevertheless, it should be pointed out that these prices will likely only hold till the end of this year, as this Thai-assembled EV will soon be hit with import taxes starting from Jan 2026. GWM does incidentally have a CKD assembly partner here (EPMB) who are churning out its Haval H6, but there has thus far been no word yet if any of its EVs will be rolling out of that same plant.
