Proton e.MAS 7 Is Malaysia’s Best-Selling EV 8 Months Running

Nearly 1 in every 4 EVs sold in Malaysia this past 8 months of 2025 was to be a Proton e.MAS 7.
Proton has recently confirmed that its e.MAS 7 has maintained its position as Malaysia’s best-selling electric vehicle for August 2025, extending its remarkable winning streak since deliveries began January. The impressive delivery tally of 5,811 units between January 1 and August 31st comprises 5,455 domestic sales and 356 units exported to four international markets.
According to the latest JPJ registration data, the e.MAS 7’s dominance shows no signs of slowing as Malaysia enters the second half of 2025. With nearly one in every four EVs sold being an e.MAS 7, this popular e-SUV has captured an impressive 24% share of the rapidly growing segment.
The e.MAS 7 lineup continues with its proven Prime and Premium variants, both powered by a front-mounted ’12-in-1 Electric Drive System’ delivering 160 kW (218 PS) and 320 Nm of torque. This configuration propels the all-electric SUV from 0-100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds, with a top speed of 175 km/h.
Both variants utilise lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs featuring Aegis Short Blade cells. The Prime version offers a 49.52 kWh unit with a WLTP-rated range of 345 km, while the Premium variant steps up with a 60.22 kWh pack delivering up to 410 km of range.
Recent updates have enhanced the e.MAS 7 with wired and wireless Apple CarPlay compatibility, an improved low-speed pedestrian warning system featuring two new sound profiles, and the addition of a tonneau cover. Pricing remains attractive at RM 105,800 for the Prime, and RM 119,800 for the Premium.
Aside from extending its sales streak, August 2025 also marked a significant milestone for Proton in its EV journey, as the company officially opened its first dedicated EV plant in Tanjung Malim. Since launch, the e.MAS 7 has been imported as a completely built-up (CBU) unit from China to satisfy strong initial demand. With the new facility now operational, production will soon transition to completely knocked down (CKD) local assembly, making it the first locally assembled EV from Proton.
This transition will soon be followed shortly by local assembly of the upcoming e.MAS 5, which is slated to be making its local debut later this year. As for those who prefer some petrol power on the other hand, it is worth highlighting that the newly facelifted Proton X50 has gone down a storm with buyers over here too.
