Proton Just Posted Its Best Sales In 3 Years This Past August

Proton delivered over 15,000 cars this past August, with nearly 1/3 being the newly-facelifted X50.
Proton has recently and rather proudly announced that it had a rather good August in terms of sales, with the 15,228 cars it delivered marking its strongest monthly commercial performance in the past three years. The Malaysian automaker also surpassed the significant milestone of 100,000 units sold for 2025, capturing an estimated 20.6% market share during a month when total industry volume reached 73,890 units, the highest level recorded in 2025.
Now leading this strong surge in demand was naturally to be the newly updated X50, which delivered a stellar sales performance just weeks after its relaunch. Following an initial delivery of 999 units in July within seven days of the launch event, August sales skyrocketed by 107.3% to reach 4,287 units. In total, over 5,000 units of the refreshed model have already reached customers within just 38 days of its official launch.
The automaker’s other internal combustion engine models meanwhile similarly maintained their competitive positions across various segments. The X90 continued its dominance in the D-segment SUV category with 220 units sold, while the S70 reinforced its leadership in the C-segment sedan market with 1,210 units delivered in August, bringing its year-to-date total to 11,960 units.
The veteran Saga in turn, celebrating its 40th anniversary in July, still proved its lasting market relevance by achieving its second-highest sales month of 2025. With 6,331 units sold, this stalwart sedan exceeded the 6,000-unit threshold for the second consecutive month, bringing its year-to-date total to 44,676 units despite persistent market speculation about an upcoming replacement model. The recently facelifted X70 also contributed significantly to Proton’s bottom line, adding 627 units to reach 5,598 units year-to-date, representing a 39.4% increase over 2024 performance.
In the rapidly evolving EV segment, the e.MAS 7 maintained its position as Malaysia’s best-selling electric vehicle with 852 units sold in August. This marks a 20.7% increase from July and brings year-to-date sales to a healthy 5,811 units.
The company’s international expansion efforts are also bearing fruit, with export sales volume now 49% ahead of the previous year. August represented the strongest export month with 586 units delivered to various international markets, boosting total year-to-date export volume to 3,144 units. The X50, Saga, and e.MAS 7 have been the primary drivers of export growth, with the e.MAS 7 expected to gain additional momentum following its official introduction in Singapore scheduled for September 17.
Zhang Qiang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proton Edar, expressed confidence in the company’s trajectory, stating that August’s achievements demonstrate sustained market momentum. With additional new models in development and the recent launch of Proton’s state-of-the-art EV manufacturing facility in Tanjung Malim, the company is well-positioned for continued growth throughout the remainder of 2025.
