Yet another day, yet another Chinese brand has made its way to Malaysia. This time it is the turn of iCaur, a(nother) Chery offshoot which incidentally is making its global debut over here with the launch of its boxy all-electric 03 SUV.
And without beating around the bush here, the big news with this e-SUV is its rather attractive price tag. Initially estimated to cost between RM 145,000 and RM 155,000, the iCAUR 03 actually lands locally costing RM 119,800 for the 2WD variant and RM 129,800 for the iWD variant respectively.
What more is that as part of an exclusive early bird package, those who place a booking for their iCAUR 03 by 17th September 2025 will be entitled to one year’s worth of FREE unlimited public charging via the JomCharge network (including authorised roaming partners). This comes on top of a complimentary Wallbox charger valued at RM 3,400, as well as various other goodies from Starbucks, JD Sports, Sunway Lagoon, and Touch ‘n Go that the automaker is including as a lifestyle package worth RM 3,000.
Also while on the subject of launch editions, there is currently a 100-unit limited-run Black Phantom Edition on offer as well. For an additional RM 20,000 on top of the purchase price of either variant of this all-electric SUV, buyers get an exclusive exterior bodykit, matte-black finish, roof rack platform, and side-ladder.
Now getting into more detail regarding the car itself, the iCAUR 03 measures 4,406 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,715 mm in height, with a generous 2,715 mm wheelbase. This puts it roughly the same size as a BYD Atto 3, but admittedly with a more chunky exterior aesthetic.
Among the exterior highlights are LED headlights with adaptive high beam up front, a panoramic sunroof with powered sunshade up top, and slab-sided bodywork that pairs angular wheel arches with chunky cladding and flush pop-out door handles around its sides. The rear features an exposed lockable 40-litre cargo box mounted on the 90º swing-out tailgate, which when open exposes a 450-litre boot that is expandable to 1,238 litres with the 60:40 split-folding rear seats down.
In terms of propulsion, the 2WD trim comes with a rear electric motor rated at 184 PS and 220 Nm of torque, with power supplied by a 65.7-kWh LFP battery that is good for a NEDC-rated range of 426 km. This particular variant takes 10.5 seconds to complete the century sprint, before eventually maxing out at a modest 150 km/h.
As for the higher-end variant meanwhile, the iWD trim adds a second front-mounted electric motor with 95 PS and 165 Nm for all-wheel drive and a total system output of 279 PS and 385 Nm. Its top speed remains identical to the 2WD at 150 km/h, but the 0-100 km/h time drops a good chunk to 6.5 seconds. This particular trim also gets a slightly higher capacity LFP battery pack of 69.8 kWh, which bumps its maximum quoted range to 418 km.
Both variants are capable of DC fast charging at a maximum capacity of 80 kW, getting the battery from a 30-80% state of charge in around 30 minutes. AC charging is capped at 6.6 kW, and there is a 3.2 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) system available to power accessories or electrical appliances.
Moving along inside the iCAUR 03, its upright dashboard sports a 15.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, as well as a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster. Other interior kit worth mentioning in this lifestyle SUV includes faux leather seat upholstery, powered front seats, dual-zone climate control with rear air vents, front and rear seat ventilation, a 50-watt wireless charging pad, keyless entry and start, in addition to interior ambient lighting.
Variant-specific features for the base 2WD include 18-inch wheels and five selectable drive modes. The higher-end iWD trim in turn gets larger 19-inch alloys and 10 drive modes, plus front seats that come with a massaging function.
Safety-wise, the iCAUR 03 comes equipped with six airbags, a 540-degree around view monitor, and a 360-degree driving video recorder. It also features a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS suite with features such as autonomous emergency braking, front and rear collision warning, emergency lane keeping, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, blind spot monitoring and door opening warning.
For off-roading capability, its short overhangs enable a 28º approach angle and 32º departure angle, while gradeability is up to 55% for the iWD and 30% for the 2WD.
The iCAUR 03 is currently available with a choice of five colourways: Silver, Grey, White, Black and Aurora Green. Every 03 comes with a seven-year, 150,000-km vehicle warranty and a separate eight-year, 160,000-km warranty for the battery and electric drive unit. Should the battery health fall below 70% within the battery warranty period, a one-to-one replacement will be provided.
Initially available as a fully built-up (CBU) import, local assembly of the iCAUR 03 will commence in January 2026 at the Chery Corporate Malaysia Shah Alam plant. Funnily enough too, while the iCaur brand and the 03 might be said to be making its global debut here in Malaysia, the car itself has actually already been sold back in China as a Jaecoo J6 for some time already.
So now you know why there won’t be a J6 between the upcoming J5 and J7 in Jaecoo’s local lineup.
