Zeekr X Wins Euro NCAP’s Best In Class Award For Small SUVs
The Zeekr X also has been awarded Euro NCAP’s best-in-class gong for the pure EV category too.
The Zeekr X appears not only to be a very stylish all-electric small SUV, but apparently a rather safe one as well. Such is as this compact e-crossover has recently won Euro NCAP’s Best In Class Award for both the Small SUV and Pure Electric Vehicle Category in 2024.
Euro NCAP’s Best in Class award is determined by the weighted sum of the scores in each of the four areas of its safety assessment. The Zeekr X excelled in all of these, achieving:
- Adult Occupant Protection: 91%
- Child Occupant Protection: 90%
- Vulnerable Road User Protection: 84%
- Safety Assist: 83%
Small SUVs dominated Euro NCAP’s testing this year, with 20 out of the total 44 cars evaluated by the organisation coming from this class. The Zeekr X outperformed competitor vehicles from both European and its fellow Chinese automakers, with those that were vying for the small SUV safety gong included Deepal’s S07, the Porsche Macan, the Cupra Tavascan, the MG HS, the Toyota C-HR, the Volvo EX30, and the Xpeng G6.
Now as for the overall best-of-the-best car that was evaluated by Euro NCAP last year meanwhile, the crash test organisation has awarded the Mercedes-Benz E-Class as best performer for 2024. The latest German executive sedan topped the safety score chart for cars tested in the last 12 months, managing to score 92% on adult occupant protection, 90% on child occupant protection, 84% on vulnerable road user protection and 87% on safety assist.
Other Euro NCAP best-in-class winners for 2024 included the Mazda CX-80, which came out on top in the large SUV segment. The Volkswagen Passat and Skoda Superb in turn took home the best-in-class gong for the large family car category.
Getting back to the Zeekr X here, this small-electric crossover largely attributes its 5-star safety standard across all crash test evaluations to its robust 720-degree all-around safety body structure. Notably, the threshold anti-collision beam features a three-layer “8-tube” energy absorption structure with airtight compartments, enabling the vehicle to withstand side impacts of up to 65 tons (636 kN).
In Euro NCAP tests, Zeekr X’s Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system stands out for its quick reactions, detecting and responding to both vulnerable road users and other vehicles. Moreover, its safety assistance function detects and avoids potential dangers from all directions while mitigating violations, and its driving assistance function monitors speed in real-time.
Additionally, the Zeekr X demonstrated its capability to maintain safety in extreme situations, such as submersion in water. If the vehicle loses power while submerged, its doors remain operable for up to two minutes, and electric windows stay functional long enough to allow occupants to escape.
The Zeekr X is currently on sale in Malaysia, alongside the 009 all-electric MPV. Two variants of this e-crossover are available over here at present, the Premium RWD priced at RM 155,800 and the Flagship AWD that goes for RM 172,800.
