The Latest Corvette ZR1 Goes From 0-96 km/h In Just 2.3 Seconds
This latest and greatest purely-petrol Corvette also takes less than 10 seconds to do a 1/4-mile.
With a whopping 1,064 horsepower on tap, the latest C8 Corvette ZR1 was always going to be a rather speedy machine. And today it was finally revealed by Chevrolet as to how quick it really is, as this flagship fibreglass supercar apparently takes just 2.3 seconds to go from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h)!
For context here, the ZR1’s 0-60 mph time ties that of the Bugatti Chiron and fully-electric Lotus Evija hypercar. It also incidentally sees this purely-petrol ‘Vette beat out its electrified E-Ray sibling, which manages the sub-century sprint 0.2 seconds slower.
Stick the ZR1 in front of 1,320 ft of prepped tarmac meanwhile, and the ‘Vette is quoted to be capable of a quarter mile time in the 9s. Chevy claims the quickest version went the flew down the drag strip in just 9.6 seconds at 150 mph (241 km/h), thereby making it the second fastest American production car to conquer the quarter mile after the sub-8 second Dodge Demon 170.
Chevrolet has stated that these incredulous quarter-mile times were recorded on a non-prepped drag-strip surface, with the cars running 93-octane pump gas. It should be highlighted however that the ZR1 in question was equipped with the optional ZTK Performance package.
The ZTK Performance package brings with it grippier Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires, front dive planes, underbody strakes for added front downforce, a tall Gurney flap that attaches to a lip on the hood, and a large rear wing. Without the option ticked, the standard ZR1 instead needs 2.5 seconds to hit 60 mph and is just a tenth slower through the quarter-mile, taking a claimed 9.7 seconds at 152 mph.
Aside from being a quick car, the ZR1 is also a pretty fast one too. Its twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V8 featured right behind the cockpit managed to rocket this ‘Vette to 233 mph (375 km/h) around the High-Speed Oval Track at ATP Automotive Testing in Papenburg, Germany a couple months back. And while prices for this Chevrolet supercar has yet to be announced yet, the bowtie marque has claimed that will be the only car in the world under $1 million that can manage that kind of V-max.
