BYD Expands To East Malaysia With First Showroom In Kuching
This first BYD outlet in Borneo is a mall-concept showroom in Kuching’s City One Megamall.
Aside from its targeted expansion northwards from Klang Valley, BYD has also recently set its sights on East Malaysia too, with the Chinese automaker announcing that it has opened its first-ever Borneo outlet in Kuching, Sarawak.
Situated on the ground floor of Kuching’s City One Megamall, this newly launched showroom is BYD’s third mall-concept showroom in Malaysia thus far. Spanning 3,000 square feet, the showroom operates as a 1S centre showcasing the latest models in the market, ready for shoppers to conveniently experience BYD.
The newly opened mall-concept showroom in City One Megamall will be available for shoppers to visit daily from 10.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. To support customers with after-sales service and maintenance of their EVs meanwhile, the BYD service centre is conveniently located across the street along Jalan Tun Jugah, This outlet is equipped with two service bays.
BYD has partnered with local dealership Regas EV Auto Sdn. Bhd. for its Sarawakian debut. Regas EV Auto Sdn. Bhd. is part of Regas Group of Companies, which has been established for 42 years and has been managing multiple marques in Borneo that ranges from national to premium automakers.
The official launch ceremony was officiated by YB Dato Sri Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government of Sarawak; Mr. Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.; Mr. Calvin Sze Tho, Head of Sales Distribution, Sime Darby Beyond Auto; and Mr. David Tay, Chairman of Regas EV Auto Sdn. Bhd.

Mr. Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia Sdn. Much like what is currently being offered in West Malaysia, Sarawakians will get the same choice of BYD offerings, which include the Atto 3 compact crossover and Dolphin hatchback. 15 units of the Atto 3 has also been reported to have arrived over there since late August. It is expected though that prices for these aforementioned EVs will likely be slightly higher than what they are currently retailing for in Peninsula Malaysia.
