Mercedes-Benz S-Class PHEV’s price revealed
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has recently announced the new Mercedes-Benz S 580 e plug-in hybrid. This is following the successful launch of the new S-Class that Mercedes-Benz introduced to us in December last year.
The S-Class stands for the fascination of Mercedes-Benz. It follows a long tradition that extends back to the early beginnings of the Mercedes brand in the early 20th Century. Each model has decisively influenced the automotive engineering of its era while simultaneously offering innovations in areas such as driver assistance, protection and interaction. The newest S-Class was even voted Luxury Car of the Year at the 2021 World Car Awards.
The ancestry of the S-Class started way back in 1951 with the model 220 (W 187), while the official S-Class designation was introduced with the 116 series in 1972. Since then, more than 4 million S-Class vehicles have been sold to customers from around the world.
The all-new S-Class plug-in hybrid will be locally assembled at the Mercedes-Benz facility in Pekan, Pahang. Since 2014, the automaker has been making it a point to offer an electrified version of the S-Class which will be locally assembled, and they have finally delivered.
This new luxury sedan is fitted with a 3.0-liter inline-6 engine with a hybrid electric motor paired with a 9-G Tronic transmission. This electric motor is capable of generating a power output of 110kW and 440Nm of torque, on top of the already powerful 270kW and 500Nm offered by the internal engine.
With its respectable top speed of 250km/h, it will take just 5.2 seconds for the vehicle to complete a century sprint. It promises around 100km of driving on pure electric mode alone.
The S 580 e will also be equipped with the latest generation MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) NTG 7 system which provides the latest technology and innovation in its interior. Mercedes-Benz has minimized the number of physical buttons in the cabin by adding 5 large screens with OLED displays which include 12.3-inch cockpit display and a 12.8-inch OLED portrait-oriented media display.
Both displays offer a comprehensive aesthetic experience with a choice of four different display styles – Discreet, Sporty, Exclusive and Classic. Also included are three different modes which are Navigation, Assistance and Service. For added entertainment, the new S-Class also features a premium Burmester® 3D surround sound system which comes with many optimizations for personal preference.
Mercedes have also taken the next step in avoiding accidents with all the new safety features in the all-new S-Class. The driver is supported by numerous new or extended driving assistance systems including PRE-SAFE®.
PRE-SAFE® is a system that can reduce the risk of injury during the event of a collision. It pushes the driver or front passenger away from the danger zone towards the inside. The impulse is created by the movement of the seat side bolsters in the front backrests. There is a balloon beneath the upholstery which can be activated, similar to an airbag. In the event of an unavoidable side collision being detected, the balloon will fill up extremely quickly. Finally, the seat side bolster is drawn inwards and the momentum of the occupants is transferred towards the middle of the vehicle, potentially saving lives.
The new locally assembled Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be available from RM 698,744.00. This price is inclusive of the 0% sales tax valid until the end of 30th June 2022 for Peninsular Malaysia.
