PROTON announces Quarts Black colorway for the Proton X50
Due to the popularity of the black colorway, the X50 will now come in Quartz Black

With its long history as Malaysia’s most popular SUV, the Proton X50 continues to build a strong fan base, driven by its core strengths of stylish design, powerful performance, outstanding safety, revolutionary intelligence, and total comfort (SPORT). In an increasingly competitive and evolving B-segment SUV market, maintaining success requires a dynamic approach to capture the attention of potential buyers. As such, PROTON is introducing a new colour option, Quartz Black.
In the ever-evolving world of automotive design, trends may shift from vibrant to muted, but black remains a constant symbol of sophistication, power, and understated confidence. Following the success of the Proton X50 Black Edition introduced in March, a limited run of 200 units based on the Flagship variant the Quartz Black will now be offered across all variants starting in April. This move reflects a design language that is both timeless and increasingly relevant to modern consumers.
Black has long held a unique position in the automotive palette, transcending fashion cycles while being associated with elegance and authority. For many buyers today, particularly younger urban professionals, it represents more than just aesthetics, but a lifestyle rooted in minimalism, maturity, and confidence. This renewed appreciation is also influenced by broader design trends across industries such as technology and fashion, where monochromatic expressions have become synonymous with premium quality.
For the Proton X50, a model already celebrated for its sporty character, the addition of Quartz Black further amplifies its visual impact. The SUV’s bold front fascia, sculpted body panels, and dynamic stance take on a sharper, more assertive presence, while contrast elements such as chrome accents and LED lighting signatures stand out with greater clarity. Beyond aesthetics, black also offers practical advantages, including strong resale value and broad market desirability, making it a safe and appealing choice for Malaysian consumers.
Despite the influx of new rivals in the segment, the Proton X50 continues to build strong market momentum. The model recorded 3,265 units sold in March, bringing its total to 7,571 units for the first three months of 2026 a 48% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This performance reaffirms its position as Malaysia’s most popular SUV and highlights the continued appeal of the updated model introduced in July last year.
PROTON recognises that product appeal extends beyond the vehicle itself, with ownership experience playing a critical role in customer satisfaction. To support this, the Proton X50 is complemented by a comprehensive after-sales programme. This includes the Fast Service initiative, which enables basic maintenance such as engine oil and filter changes to be completed within 90 minutes for customers who book in advance and wait on-site. For more extensive servicing, the 1-Day Service Delivery promise ensures vehicles are returned within 24 hours. In cases where repairs exceed three working days, customers are provided with a relief car along with a complimentary one-time service covering both parts and labour.
Commenting on these efforts, Dato’ Ir Abdul Rashid Musa, Chief Executive Officer of Proton Edar, said the Proton X50 has been the company’s SUV spearhead since its introduction in 2020, with its success built on product quality and a deep understanding of customer needs. He added that the introduction of Quartz Black, alongside continued emphasis on customer experience, reflects PROTON’s commitment to meeting evolving expectations.
“PROTON believes that today’s buyers are not just purchasing a vehicle, but investing in an identity, a lifestyle, and a promise of reliability. Black is more than just a colour choice for the Proton X50, it is a statement that aligns with the model’s reputation as a modern, stylish, and dependable SUV for Malaysians.”
