Xpeng X9 All-Electric MPV Lands Locally From RM 269,888

This funky-looking Xpeng X9 lands locally to challenge the Denza D9 and Zeekr 009 in the burgeoning e-MPV segment.
2025 seems to be the year of the premium electric MPV in Malaysia, and all of them coincidentally happen to have ‘9’ in their names. Following on from the Zeekr 009 and Denza D9 now comes the newly-launched Xpeng X9, which lands locally with a starting price of RM 269,888.
More specifically, three variants of the Xpeng X9 are available in Malaysia:
- Standard Range 2WD Pro: RM 269,888
- Long Range 2WD Pro: RM 287,888
- Long Range 2WD Pro Plus: RM 299,888
In kicking off discussions regarding this e-MPV by touching upon its most unique selling point first, one has to say that the Xpeng X9 certainly looks like no other car on the road. I mean, its rear alone is basically more cubist Picasso painting than people mover.
And it’s not just the edgy rump (featuring a 23° coupé-style rear windshield) that is aesthetically interesting too, as the Xpeng signature Robot Face and honeycomb-style Active Grille Shutter (AGS) system on this X9 gives this e-MPV the face of a Mecha robot.
Moving on within, the X9’s starship-inspired cockpit packs a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 17.3-inch infotainment display up front. Other luxury-oriented features found within the Xpeng X9 include ceiling-mounted 21.4-inch screen, a 23-speaker 7.1.6 XOpera audio system paired with a 2,180 W amplifier, a five-zone climate control system with ceiling vents, CN95 air filtration and negative ion generator, as well as the obligatory in-car ‘integrated cold & hot electric open close refrigerator.’
The lower-tier X9 variants come with high-quality leatherette seats, while the Long Range Pro Plus trim takes luxury up a notch with full-grain Nappa leather upholstery. The flagship spec further boasts a built-in fragrance system, dual 50W air-cooled wireless chargers, and Zero Gravity middle-row seats with 18-way adjustments, six-mode massage function, and a one-touch Zero Gravity posture activation.
As for what lies under that rather funky skin, among the cooler bits of kit is the Xpeng X9’s active rear-wheel steering system, enabling this massive MPV to boast an impressively tight 5.4m turning diameter. This premium people mover also features an intelligent dual-chamber air suspension setup, which automatically adjusts spring stiffness based on road conditions to ensure a smooth and comfortable driving experience in any environment.
In terms of what makes it move, a single front-mounted motor that outputs 315 hp and 450 Nm of torque propels all variants of the Xpeng X9 locally. The only difference between the trims is that the 84.5 kWh LFP battery pack in the Standard Range spec is good for 500 km on a full charge, while the larger 101.5 kWh NMC unit on the Extended Range trims extends that WLTP-rated figure by a further 90 km.
Built on the advanced SEPA 2.0 architecture and featuring an 800 V high-voltage silicon carbide (SiC) platform, all variants of the Xpeng X9 are capable of ultra-fast DC charging of up to 317 kW, enabling a 10-80% charge in just 20 minutes. Peak AC charging input tops out at 11kW, which translates to around a 9.5-hour charge time for the Short Range to go from 5% to 100%, while the Long Range variants take slightly longer at 11 hours.
On the safety and driver assistance front, standard on all X9s are six airbags and the usual passive safety kit one could expect in a modern car. Where this e-MPV really struts its stuff however is on the active safety front, with its XPILOT ADAS being driven by an Nvidia Drive Orin-X chipset capable of 254 TOPS that is linked to three millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors and 12 cameras.
The Xpeng X9’s XPILOT suite brings with it Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop & Go, Lane Centering Control (LCC), Adaptive Turning Cruise (ATC), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (SAS), Active Lane Change (ALC), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind-Spot Detection (BSD), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA). This e-MPV also offers Enhanced Auto Parking Assist (EAP 2.0), Auto Exit Parking Assist (AEP), and Straight Summon, all accessible via the mobile app for effortless manoeuvring.
The Xpeng X9 comes fully imported from China and is currently available in three exterior hues: Nebula White, Crescent Silver, and Dark Night Black. Interior color options are between Starry Night Black and Moon Shadow Brown.
For added peace of mind, the X9 comes with a 5-Year Manufacturer Warranty (or 120,000 km, whichever comes first) and 5-Years Free Service and Maintenance (or 100,000 km, whichever comes first). Additionally, it includes an 8-Year High Voltage Battery Pack Warranty with a 160,000 km mileage limit, ensuring long-term reliability and performance.
