Toyota Yaris Used Values Too Close To New Yaris Price

The Toyota Yaris was launched in Malaysia on April 18, 2019 and it was locally assembled at UMW Toyota’s factory in Bukit Raja, Klang and its launch selling price 7 years ago was from RM70,800 for the base model ‘J’ to RM83,888 for the ‘G’ top specification version.

The Yaris is powered by a 1.5 litre Dual VVT-i engine which was first used in the popular Vios sedan, with 107 PS and 140 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. The 2NR-FE DOHC engine is paired to a CVT automatic gearbox.

The Yaris measures 4,145 mm long and 1,730 mm wide, with a 2,550 mm wheelbase which is slightly larger than the current popular Perodua Myvi.

In September 2023 there was a mild facelift introduced. This face-lifted Toyota Yaris new selling price was RM88,000 for the 1.5E model, while the 1.5G was priced at RM91,600 (OTR Price Without Insurance).

The slight increase in price with the added new features like a larger 9-inch display with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, as well as a wireless charger. The seats were upgraded with a more striking fabric design, and the USB ports updated to a Type-C format.

What’s more, a front driving video recorder (DVR) with smartphone connectivity, was also now standard. Finishing off the enhancements to the interior was a new sporty Optitron instrument gauge cluster with red and white graphics giving it a more sporty and youthful feel reflecting its target audience.

Now, with this price increase, its popularity did not reduce and this is why today the used value of this depreciation ‘KING’ (we say that this is the new KING and the MYVI has lost its throne) is having used car lots very happy to take in and flip in a very short time stock of the Yaris.

Now, that you have absorbed all of the above. Here is my humble advice. Where possible, best to just buy a brand new Toyota Yaris instead of looking at a used unit. Why?

Well, with very low deprecation, you will realise that a 2019 Toyota Yaris in our used market is about RM54,000 and you will need to add RM1,200 at least for the dealer transfer fee and then when taking a loan you will pay higher interest rate over a new car loan interest rate.

If you look at a year 2022 to 2024 used Yaris which is asking between RM68k to RM70k, you are better off getting a brand new Toyota Yaris which now has a RM10,500 discount and the monthly instalment is ONLY from RM660.00 a month.

Think about it. The new car offers lower interest rate and lower monthly payments over a used 2 to 3 year old used Yaris. Surprised?
