Tesla Recalls Nearly All Cybertrucks Due To Panels Potentially Falling Off

This latest recall to rectify its falling panels is incidentally the Tesla Cybertruck’s 8th since January 2024.

Another day, and apparently another Cybertruck recall, as Tesla has recently announced (yet again!) that its futuristic-looking all-electric pickup requires a post-sale patch.

Now the recall this time round is to apparently address an adhesive issue, which has the potential to see metal trim pieces detach itself from the vehicle while the vehicle is in motion. This particular recall affects approximately 46,096 Cybertrucks manufactured between November 2023 and February 2024… or to put it in another sense, almost the entire production run.

According to Tesla’s filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue involves the ‘cant rail’ — a cosmetic applique along the vehicle’s exterior. This assembly consists of an electro-coated steel stamping joined to a stainless steel panel with structural adhesive and attached to the vehicle with fasteners.

“The cant rail stainless steel panel may delaminate at the adhesive joint, which may cause the panel to separate from the vehicle,” Tesla explained in the recall notice.

The company has acknowledged 151 warranty claims potentially related to the recall, but there have been no reports of collisions or injuries from this particular defect. It has, funnily enough, further added in the recall notice that drivers may notice noise inside the vehicle or observe panels becoming loose or detaching completely.

Despite Tesla claiming only 1% of vehicles in this production run may be affected, the automaker is addressing all 46,096 trucks. Production and deliveries were also temporarily halted as reports of the issue surfaced.

This latest recall marks the Cybertruck’s eighth since January 2024, raising significant questions about quality control for Tesla’s supposedly “bulletproof” pickup truck. This isn’t the first time the Cybertruck has faced panel detachment problems too, as last summer, over 11,000 examples were recalled for a similar adhesive-related issue that caused trim pieces to fly off during driving.

This widespread recall comes at a challenging time for Tesla, whose stock has reportedly lost approximately half its value this year. The company faces increasing competition in the EV market, an aging product lineup, and controversy surrounding CEO Elon Musk’s involvement in the Trump administration.
