BYD Malaysia Debuts Enhanced Atto 3 E-Crossover For 2024

The big news regarding this 2024 update is for the Extended Range Atto 3 to be dropped by BYD for Malaysia.

While the Atto 3 has been a smash hit for BYD in the e-crossover segment over here, the last couple of months have however seen it be swamped by some rather competent and compelling alternatives. So likely in an attempt to hopefully maintain its lead as Malaysia’s best selling EV for the foreseeable future, it has since undergone a minor enhancement for 2024.

Now starting with the exterior changes first, new for 2024 with the Atto 3 are for the fins on its D-pillar to be black instead of the previous white. The prior ‘Build Your Dreams’ emblem emblazoned right across its rump too has since been replaced by the ‘BYD’ logo situated atop its light bar, with this e-crossover to now be available as well in a new Cosmo Black hue.

And while on the topic of colours here, new for the Atto 3 in 2024 is a black and dark blue two-tone cabin option to complement the existing dark blue and light grey scheme. This e-crossover has since also seen its rotating central screen grow from 12.8-inches to 15.6-inches, with wireless charging now available as standard right across the range too.

It is nevertheless a misnomer to mention its range though, as the Atto 3 lineup for 2024 has since been reduced to just one trim on offer. That is as with this recent update, BYD has dropped the Extended Range trim and left only the Standard Range option available with its e-crossover.

BYD has yet to officially announce why it has dropped the longer range trim from the lineup, but there is the hypothesis that the Chinese EV giant would prefer if there is a larger gulf between its 3 current offerings. This is especially when considering that the lowest price of its newly-released Seal sedan is to be only RM 10k shy of the Extended Range Atto 3, which retailed previously for RM 167,800.

In terms of its tech specs, the 2024 enhanced BYD Atto 3 remains identical to its pre-updated counterpart. Driving its front wheels is a front-mounted electric motor rated at 204 PS and 310 Nm of torque, with it to be fed by a 49.92 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack that is good for up to 345 km of range according to the WLTP test cycle.

For charging up said batteries meanwhile, the Atto 3 still supports a 7 kW AC and a 70 kW DC maximum input. This in turn sees for BYD to still claim the identical fast charging time of 0-80% state of charge in 45 minutes, with this e-crossover continuing to also feature a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function.

This new for 2024 enhanced BYD Atto 3 currently retails for RM 149,800, which is incidentally the exact same price as its pre-update predecessor. Aftersales coverage for this e-crossover includes a 6-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, in addition to an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty coverage for its battery and drive unit.

Furthermore, BYD’s existing Service Standard and Service Plus packages are available for customers to purchase. The latter package will now include additional services such as tyre rotation, alignment, and balancing, along with annual 12 V battery replacement in addition to the existing offerings.
