Nissan Debuts New Dune-Spec Frontier Forsberg Edition

This special Frontier was inspired by the modified Nissan pickup that recently won the NORRA 500.

It would seem that every self-respecting pickup maker these days much have a dune-spec truck in their lineup, with Nissan following on from the trend of the Ranger Raptor by tarting up its Frontier with a special Forsberg Edition.

Set to make its debut at the upcoming Chicago Auto Show this week, this new dealer-installed add-on package nevertheless brings with it more than a few off-road goodies, in order to better enable it to pay homage the modified Frontier which Forsberg Racing recently won the NORRA 500 race with.

Now among the aforementioned add-ons that will be most visibly obvious are its new set of 17-inch Axis Beadlock wheels, rock sliders and a roof rack with integrated LED lighting. Forsberg Racing decals and a Forsberg Racing Limited Edition badge also make it onto this truck, in order to complete the desert-racing look of this special edition Frontier.

Backing up the truck’s newly enhanced off-roady appearance meanwhile is a NISMO Off Road lift kit and other supporting NISMO Off Road suspension parts. This includes a pair of forged upper control arms and high-performance shocks, in addition to a NISMO cat-back exhaust and Yokohama Geolandar X-AT off-road tires that wrap around the aforementioned beadlock wheels.

The Forsberg Edition package will be available come this fall and it can be installed on 2022 and newer Crew Cab Frontiers. This dealer-level add-on has been quoted by the manufacturer to come in at a chunky $9,999 (RM 48,000), which in turn will see for a brand-new Nissan pickup that is kitted out with this package to cost from at least $41,069 (RM 196,000).

This particular iteration of Nissan’s Frontier that arrived in 2021 comes with the sole engine option of a 3.8 litre naturally aspirated V6, which in turn sends its 310 hp and 381 Nm of torque to either the rear wheels or all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission. Other notable highlights with this pickup includes a chunky exterior aesthetic that could be had with an electronic locking differential underneath, in addition to zero-gravity front seats and a 10-speaker Fender premium audio system within.

Speaking more regarding the truck that actually won the NORRA 500 on which this limited edition was inspired from, Chris Forsberg and teammate Leticia Bufoni entered the 2023 year’s race in the stock production class with a mildly-modified Frontier and took home first-place in the category.

“Our championship win at the NORRA 500 was a testament to the capabilities of the Nissan Frontier with NISMO Off Road parts and Yokohama Geolandar tires,” said Forsberg. “We took a stock truck outfitted with NISMO Off Road parts and drove it from the shop in Southern California to the event, raced across the Baja desert for 500 miles, and drove it back home to the shop without an issue. It’s thrilling to know that more drivers will be able to experience a taste of the rugged performance that propelled our success in the NORRA 500.”
