Volkswagen Recalls 6,671 Cars Locally For Takata Airbag Fault

The Volkswagen models affected include the Mk6 Golf GTI, Eos, Passat CC, Polo, Beetle and Vento from 2010 to 2014. 

While it may seem to have been done and dusted already, the Takata airbag recalls however are still unfortunately ongoing. And the latest to announce its own campaign is Volkswagen, who are recalling 6,671 cars locally for a faulty driver front airbag gas generator housing. 

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has announced for the models affected by this particular recall include the Mk6 Golf GTI, Eos, Passat CC, Polo, Beetle and Vento that were built between 2010 and 2014. The automaker gas stated that the recall is carried out due to concern the deterioration of the generator’s propellant due to high air humidity and temperature fluctuations over a long period of time, which could in turn lead to potential injury to the driver and passenger.

VPCM has further stated for it to have taken the necessary steps with its dealer partners in ensuring parts availability and for the recall to be conducted smoothly and efficiently, with the nationwide recall being carried out in phases to manage the number of cases.

Notification regarding the recall is currently being sent to owners on Volkswagen’s database through e-mail and WhatsApp, with the automaker urging current owners who purchased a vehicle model listed above from a previous owner or a used car dealership to urgently contact the nearest authorised dealer for verification on their vehicle’s recall status. 

Concerned owners may also visit https://www.volkswagen.com.my/volkswagen-service/repair-and-service/service-action and key in their 17-digit VIN number to further verify if their vehicle is affected, with the aforementioned VIN to be found at the bottom left of their vehicle’s windscreen.

Much like any other recall too, parts replacement and associated labour will be performed at no cost to owners.
