Roush’s New Supercharger Kit Boosts The Mustang To 810 HP

The best bit is that this Roush Performance supercharger kit brings with it all that power to the Mustang for only $10,000!

With 480 horses to be found in its 5.0-litre V8 stable, it is likely reasonable to say that what the new Ford Mustang GT certainly isn’t lacking is power.

But American tuner Roush Performance still thinks there is more to be had, and hence has recently partnered with Magnuson Superchargers to develop a new supercharger kit for this American sports car. An add-on which incidentally sees for this now boosted V8 to churn out a Mustang GTD-rivalling 810 horsepower, not to mention a tyre-shredding 853 Nm of torque.

Now for those doing the math, that is to be an increase of 330 hp and 264 Nm from what the standard car produces. Or to put it in another more impressive metric, the blower kit adds more power than what is currently output of the 2.3-litre EcoBoost four pot in the lower-tier Mustangs.

Though perhaps even more impressive than that is for this gigantic lump of added power to not really be all that much money. Such is as this supercharger kit — launched in what has been dubbed Limited Edition Phase 2 guise — is only to cost $9,995 (RM 46,000), free shipping included!

The heart of this Roush supercharger kit is an inverted Eaton TVS R2650 with a front inlet, dual intercoolers and an 84 mm pulley, for which it is quoted to produce a peak boost of 13 psi at 7,500 rpm. Coming along with the rather comprehensive kit meanwhile is a high-flow Bosch PCE intercooler pump, a large heat exchanger, billet fuel rails as well as twin cone fuel injectors with optimised director plates.

And that’s not all too, as included also are custom hoses and a larger coolant expansion tank, in addition to a set of Ford Performance spark plugs and Roush Performance engine calibration. The Limited Edition Phase 2 package further adds Jack Roush’s signature prominently laser-etched on the supercharger block, which itself comes powder-coated in red as a clear warning for there to be a boosted beast under that hood.

In speaking more about this kit, Roush Performance touts that the installation process is to be  rather straightforward, thanks to its design that requires no modifications to the K member or removal of the front fascia for the front mount or low-temperature radiator. All the wiring is plug-and-play too, and the tuning software is easily uploaded.

This top-flight supercharger kit from Roush will soon be followed up by the comparatively more tame Phase 1 and Phase 2 packages launching later this year. No word yet on the pricing of those yet, but it has been made known that these aforementioned kits will work with both stick and self-shifting transmission options.

Interestingly enough too here, the Roush kit isn’t to be the only $10,000 Mustang blower package in town. This is as Ford Performance also offers a supercharger upgrade that delivers an identical horsepower figure, albeit with a 20 Nm torque deficit. And for a fiver less as well there is the Lethal Performance kit, which delivers 3 ponies less than the Roush but 7 Nm more torque.
