Please Do NOT Do This In A 1st Gen Alza — Or Any Car, Really!

There are many safer locations to snuggle up to one’s bae than the front seats of a moving Perodua Alza.

Now yes, there’s perhaps no better feeling in the world than cuddling up with the love of your life. But as the old saying goes, there’s a proper place and time for everything…

And really, lying across the front seats of a Perodua Alza with your head on your bae’s lap while he’s driving is practically asking for physically painful consequences. Even if the driver just slams the brakes in an emergency — let alone if, heaven forbid, there’s an actual crash — the results could (and would) be catastrophic.

There is after all a reason that car seats are designed in a specific way to keep passengers secure, and why there are also laws around mandating all who sit in cars to buckle up. It’s most definitely not to make your trip uncomfortable, but instead to best protect everyone in the event of a collision.

And while we could perhaps charitably assume that the lady lying down on her honey was wearing her seat belt, the really scary thing to note is that the seatbelt would not have sufficient support to hold her down in her seat while she is in that position. And thus in the event of a frontal collision, her forehead would most likely be introduced — quite forcefully — to the steering wheel.

That’s not all too, as if the driver’s airbag were to deploy, her head would be taking a direct hit from the rapidly inflating airbag, which in turn means a second explosive blow to her skull, while her sayang is likely to cop a solid punch to the gut as her head slams into his stomach, propelled by said airbag.

Oh, and with the airbag deformed somewhat from the obstruction of another head, there is a chance that the driver will not be adequately cushioned by it, potentially leading to further possibilities of physical injuries from whiplash.

Now, understandably, the first-generation Alza’s bench-style front seats do practically invite lovey-dovey couples to get a little cozy. But if anything happens while the car is moving, there’s a very real chance you’ll end up separated from your significant other — forever.

P.S: A closer look at the now-viral video also shows a few other no-nos worth highlighting:

  1. The driver’s phone screen appears to show that the couple is on a group video call while on the road. This is at the very least rather distracting to the driver, which further increases the possibility of an imminent vehicular accident.
  2. There’s also what appears to be a model AE86 Trueno on the dashboard of this Alza. A cool ornament, sure — but in the event of a crash, it turns into a dangerous projectile.
