Toyota Expands Fuel Pump Recall To Include More Models
Over 10,000 Toyota and Lexus models are now affected by this recall.
UMW Toyota Motor Sdn. Bhd. (UMWT) today announces an expansion of their fuel pump recall to involve a greater number of Toyota and Lexus vehicles in Malaysia, now with over 10,000 vehicles affected by this most recent expansion to Toyota’s earlier Special Service Campaign (SSC).
A total 9,500 Toyota vehicles are affected by this expanded fuel pump recall, of which the models include the Alphard, Vellfire, Camry, Corolla, Fortuner, Innova, C-HR and Harrier that are manufactured from July 2017 to July 2019.
On the Lexus side meanwhile, 850 vehicles are affected, ranging from the ES250, GS200t, GS350, IS200t, LC500, LS500, LX570, NX300, RX300 and RX350 that were produced during the same time period.
Official notification will be sent by UMWT to owners of vehicles affected by this recall. Models that are not listed here are not affected by this recall campaign. All cost of the fuel pump unit replacement will also be borne by UMWT.
The cause of this recall is due to a fault with the fuel pump ‘which may stop operating’. According to UMWT, if this were to occur, there will be warning lights and messages displayed on the instrument panel, in addition to the driver most probably experiencing hesitation with the engine’s power delivery.
More information about this recall can be obtained by contacting any authorised Toyota dealership, or by calling 1800-8-TOYOTA (869682).
It does beg the question now though, as to what will happen to those reconditioned Toyotas that were manufactured within this time period. Are they also affected by this recall? And if so, where or who are they going to turn to for a fix to this potentially dangerous fault?
