CKD BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence Launched Locally

This locally assembled variant of the BMW X7 arrives with a cheaper price tag of RM 673k.

BMW Malaysia has recently officially launched the locally-assembled version of its X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence. Priced at just RM 673,323.61 (inclusive of SST exemption), this large Bavarian SUV that is now made in Kulim is some RM 190k cheaper than the same fully imported variant that came before.

As for the inevitable spec differences between CKD and CBU models of this large German SUV, there surprisingly really isn’t much that has been changed during its localised assembly. Kicking off with its exterior first, the imposing look of the X7 still comes courtesy of a large kidney grille up front, flanked on either side by slender BMW Laserlight headlights with high-beam assistant and LED fog lights down below.

Moving further down the side, its 5.15-metre-long slab-sided profile is accented by subtle chrome highlights and 21-inch Y-spoke light alloy wheels. Round the back meanwhile, the X7 comes as standard with fully-electric tailgate with the Comfort Access hands-free operation feature, which sits above two large rectangular tail pipes integrated within either end of the highly-polished rear skid plate.

Now connected to those tail pipes is the same sufficiently large 3.0 litre turbocharged straight-six as its fully-imported brethren, that sends its 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque to all four wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission. This in turn translates to a rather impressive 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 245 km/h for this large 7-seat SUV.

What is perhaps even more impressive however about this 2.3 tonne behemoth is its suspension technology. That is because not only is there two-axle air suspension and BMW’s Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system which enable it to tackle corners with relative flatness, this locally assembled X7 also now brings with it rear wheel steering to the imported car’s existing army of electronics like its Executive Drive Pro with active roll stabilisation and Dynamic Damper Control (DDC) system.

Though it gained the aforementioned rear wheel steering for more manoeuvrability, the locally-assembled X7 does unfortunately lose out on the Driving Assistant Professional enhanced suite of active driver aids. The regular Driving Assistant system on this CKD car still features adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist and blind spot monitoring, but forgoes lane centring assist, lane change assist, blind spot collision avoidance and the Crossroads Warning feature.

Continuing on the topic of tech, there is nevertheless no shortage of it within the Vernasca leather-trimmed interior of this tech-laden SUV. In fact, it actually comes with all the kit that was previously available with the fully-imported model.

Kicking off with the screens firsts, the CKD X7 comes as standard with twin 12.3-inch screens and a heads-up display. All of which run on BMW’s Operating System 7.0 with integrated voice-controlled BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and BMW Gesture Control.

On the luxury front, this three-row luxo-SUV comes as standard with five-zone air conditioning, electric roller blinds for side windows, a large Panorama Roof Sky Lounge as well as a full suite of active driver aids courtesy of the BMW Personal CoPilot technology. Soft close doors, a Harman Kardon Surround Sound System with 16 loudspeakers and a Welcome Light Carpet are just the cherry on top of the long, long list of fancy features available with the X7.

Available in a choice of five exterior colours: Sapphire Black, Sophisto Grey, Phytonic Blue, Manhattan Metallic and Mineral White, the locally-assembled X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence is now available at all authorised BMW dealerships nationwide starting 8th May 2021. Due to a scheduled website maintenance, online bookings of RM 5,000 for this large SUV at the BMW Shop Online will only be available starting from the 11th of May 2021.

PRESS RELEASE: BMW Malaysia today introduced the locally assembled variant of the All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence – reaffirming their investments in the local automotive landscape through one of the brand’s many progressive pillars.

“We are proud to be redefining the Story of Progressive Luxury with a new addition to our portfolio of locally-assembled vehicles in Malaysia. The new model is also a testament to our commitment in the local market, as we further innovate our fleet of premium Sports Activity Vehicles to complement the most luxurious of lifestyles in Malaysia,” said Hans de Visser, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia.

He added, “After the extensive introduction of many high-profile locally assembled vehicles in the past year – including the BMW 218i Gran Coupé, the BMW 330e M Sport, and the BMW M340i xDrive – this move to localise the assembly of one of our largest models in the BMW X range further demonstrates our longstanding confidence in Malaysia’s potential as a regional hub for the luxury automobile segment.”

The All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence is an exemplification of luxury within the BMW brand, and is a sophisticated statement on its own. The variant’s imposing appearance and stature, designed with comfort and luxury at its heart, belies the versatility and agility that are characteristic of a BMW X model. With its outstanding powertrain and chassis technology, the All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence offers an unparalleled driving and interior experience.

The paradigm of luxury and authority.

The All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence retains its iconic bold and immaculate design. The massive front with the imposing kidney grille lends an exceptional road presence to the vehicle, along with the slender BMW Laserlight headlights that can illuminate up to 600 metres ahead. Available as standard also are the LED fog lights and high-beam assistant.

From the side, the near-vertical shoulder line visually elongates the All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence from the front to rear – with large windows and a long, dynamically flowing roofline that hints at a spacious interior. Equally striking are the 21-inch light alloy wheels in Y-spoke style 753 Bicolour with run-flat tyres, available as standard. The variant also features a fully-electric tailgate in the rear with the Comfort Access feature, and two large, rectangular tailpipes – one on each side, conveying its immense power.

Formidable engines, hallmark BMW dynamics.

The All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence also retains the powerful six-cylinder in-line petrol engine capable of a maximum power of 250kW/ 340hp, and a peak torque of 450Nm. This results in a century sprint completed in 6.1 seconds. All of these are achieved with a combined fuel consumption of 9.5l/100km and a combined carbon emission of 218g/km.

Power is channelled to all four wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. The xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system of the luxury SAV maximises traction, agility and handling stability which links up with the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) feature. Included in the sophisticated chassis design of the variant is a two-axle air suspension. With the DSC system, the vehicle load registered by the air suspension sensors can also be factored into braking modulation.

Like the imported variant, the locally assembled variant of the All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence is offered with the innovative Executive Drive Pro with active roll stabilisation.

Luxurious interior design with integrated technology.

The interior of the All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence also features the opulent “Crafted Clarity” handmade diamond-cut trim element and a range of standard equipment including a sport leather steering wheel and electrically adjustable comfort seats.

The BMW Live Cockpit Professional with BMW Operating System 7.0 combines the fully digital, user-configurable 12.3-inch instrument cluster with an equally large central Control Display with touchscreen functionality. The BMW Head-Up Display is also located within field of vision. The variant is also fitted with the voice-controlled BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and BMW Gesture Control.

Other highlights include the Welcome Light Carpet feature, five-zone air conditioning, a Harman Kardon Surround Sound System with 16 loudspeakers and electric roller blinds for side windows. The Rear Entertainment Professional system is also available within the locally assembled variant, while the sheer spaciousness is further enhanced by the large Panorama Roof Sky Lounge.

The All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence also features soft-close function for doors. Space is offered to the luxury SAV via a versatile luggage compartment that can be maximised up to 2,120 litres with the backrests folded down.

Advanced connectivity meets sporting luxury.

The All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence is equipped with the Reversing Assistant to assist in safely manoeuvring out of a tight parking space. The Driving Assistant has been outfitted with a comprehensive range of functions, tailored to allow full ease of mind when on the drive. They include Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Warning and Front Collision Warning with brake intervention.

As a welcome addition, the All-New BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence also comes with Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function and Integral Active Steering, further enhancing the safety and comfort of the drive. Other innovative features include the BMW Digital Key, wireless charging for mobile phones, as well as smartphone integration that are available as standard equipment for the locally assembled variant.

The exterior colours of Black Sapphire and Sophisto Grey come in Cognac Leather Vernasca upholstery with Black design perforations, while Phytonic Blue and Manhattan Metallic exteriors come complete with an all-Black design-perforated Leather Vernasca interior.
