Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia has just introduced its new Land Rover Discovery Sport, a compact premium SUV that is versatile by design, yet technologically-advanced for everyday life demands. Available in two variants i.e. the 5-seater and the 5+2 seating high-spec, the Discovery Sport R-Dynamic variants are priced at RM379,800 and RM409,800 respectively (applicable only to Peninsular Malaysia; excluding road tax and insurance).
The quintessential Discovery design DNA ensures a striking visual impact on the new Discovery Sport R-Dynamic, with new design cues incorporated to exude a sportier silhouette and a bolder front fascia. Modernity and refinement are also reflected in the new signature LED headlamps at the front and rear, alongside a new front grille and bumpers while maintaining the Land Rover’s trademark design which includes a prominent clamshell bonnet, rising belt-line and a tapered roof.
Details have also been incorporated to improve the driving experience and sophistication of the car. Among them include the new power transfer feature called the Driveline Disconnect, which has been employed into the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system. This feature works by disconnecting the drive of the front axle to the rear wheels under steady state cruising, thereby reducing frictional losses and re-engaging AWD in less than 500 milliseconds.
In addition, the Terrain Response 2 is now also made as a standard feature on the new Discovery Sport. Terrain 2 Response puts an exceptional amount of Land Rover engineering with a simple twist of the dial to optimise performance on a variety of different surfaces for better traction and control. Each driving mode tunes the response of the throttle, brakes, differentials, and transmission to deliver premium handling. Drivers can select Comfort, Sand, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud & Ruts or activate the Auto mode which will automatically adjusts its torque delivery to suit the terrain.
The new Discovery Sport offers a pleasant and satisfying drive with the efficient 2.0L turbocharged Ingenium Petrol engine. Mated to the ZF nine-speed automatic transmission, the Discovery Sport offers a smooth and responsive drive. The nine closely-stacked gear ratios provide excellent response and allow for a very low first gear, improved mid-range acceleration and a tall ninth gear for reduced engine revs at higher cruising speeds; all of which, reduces fuel consumption, emissions and engine noise.
With smart technologies integrated into the vehicle, driving the Discovery Sport is also so much more convenient and precise. The ClearSight Ground View, Land Rover’s world-first technology is a new feature for the Discovery Sport. It provides drivers with a clear virtual view of the ground in assisting them to navigate through rough terrains, park in tight spaces and to avoid side kerbs on the road.
Adding on to the smart features of the Discovery Sport is the 10-inch high definition Touch Pro infotainment system which includes Apple CarPlay® and Android AutoTM. The advanced touchscreen has a user-friendly interface that allows you to pinch zoom and swipe, as well as customise your home screen with wallpaper and add widgets. The system also allows the driver to control the climate system and Terrain Response 2. In addition, the Interactive Driver Display has also been fitted as standard with a 12-inch high-definition screen that displays multiple driving information, entertainment and active safety data, which includes navigation, phone and media.
Also available is a Generation 2 Head-Up Display which presents a greater amount of key information in high-resolution and full-colour graphics such as vehicle speed, gear position and navigation directions on the windscreen – to make journeys safer by helping drivers to keep their eyes on the road.
The new Discovery Sport also introduces the wireless device charging, a standard feature that comes across all variants. This allows drivers to charge smartphones with wireless charging capability simply by placing them on the charging mat, located below the centre console.

The Discovery Sport offers a host of advanced safety technologies features, such as a front and rear parking aid, High-speed Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist and Driver Condition Monitor as well as the 360° Surround Camera that is equipped with Wade Sensing features. An occupant safety package also comes standard with every Land Rover vehicle which includes a total of seven airbags – driver and passenger airbags, knee airbags, side curtain and thorax airbag.
