Jaecoo Begins Local Assembly Of Its Omoda C9 At Shah Alam

The first examples of this Omoda C9 will be delivered to local customers beginning January 2025.

Coming right off its local launch just last week, Jaecoo has since announced that it has begun the local assembly of the Omoda C9 right here at its own Shah Alam plant. The first deliveries of this D-segment 5-seat SUV is earmarked to begin by January 2025, with AWD variants set to come first before its 2WD counterparts.

The Omoda C9 is currently the second model locally assembled at Jaecoo’s Shah Alam plant, with the inaugural product rolling off the line there being its J7 SUV earlier this year. The smaller Omodas meanwhile (Omoda 5 and E5) are incidentally to also be put together in Malaysia, but these Chery-branded models roll out of Inokom’s Kulim site instead.

“We are very happy with the encouraging response for our C9 Premium Off-road SUV Coupé and ready to deliver on the Malaysian market’s demands. As a brand that is invested for the long term, we are equally dedicated to taking care of our customers throughout their ownership journey with us. Looking ahead, Jaecoo continues to keep our finger on the pulse to ensure we deliver best-in-class vehicles and services that suit the market’s current needs,” said Jaecoo Malaysia Vice President, Emily Lek.

Two variants of the Omoda C9 are currently available locally, with these being the 2WD and AWD variants that retail for RM 168,800 and RM 188,800 respectively. Featured under the hood of both these Jaecoo SUVs are a 2.0 TGDI turbocharged four pot that outputs 257 hp and 400 Nm of torque, with power sent to either its front or all four wheels by way of an 8-speed automatic transmission.

And for those who are perhaps wondering whether the AWD is worth another additional RM 20,000, Jaecoo has handily also provided a breakdown on what exactly is to be included for that extra dough with the all-paw Omoda C9:
