Geely Unveils 2.25MW EV Charging System That Can Hit 70% in 4.5 Minutes

Geely Auto has unveiled a new 2.25MW ultra-fast charging system, claiming it can take a compatible electric vehicle from 10% to 70% charge in just 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
The new system is part of Geely’s latest Smart Charging technology and is designed to work with the company’s new 12C battery technology. Under normal temperature conditions, Geely says vehicles using the battery can reach 97% charge in 8 minutes and 40 seconds.
The technology has already been tested with the Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001, with CATARC recording a peak charging power of around 1.09MW on the Lynk & Co 10 during testing.
Handling this kind of charging power is obviously not as simple as plugging in a larger charger and waiting. Geely says it is using artificial intelligence to monitor the battery and manage the charging process in real time.
Its charging system can reportedly predict changes in battery temperature up to 30 seconds in advance, allowing it to adjust the charging rate accordingly. This is intended to help maintain charging performance while keeping temperatures under control.
Geely has also developed a new liquid-cooling system covering the entire charging chain. This includes the energy storage system, charger, charging cable, charging port and battery pack, rather than focusing on cooling just one part of the system.
The company claims its new battery technology can also use pulse currents to help restore battery performance. According to Geely, this could potentially increase battery cycle life by up to 20%.
Geely is also planning to expand the infrastructure needed to make ultra-fast charging more useful. The company is targeting more than 100,000 charging guns across China by the end of 2027, with more than half expected to use its Smart Charging technology.
This puts Geely into an increasingly competitive race in China to push EV charging speeds into the megawatt range.
BYD kicked off this charging race in earnest in March 2025 with its Super e-Platform and 1,000V architecture, which was designed to add up to 400 km of range in five minutes. The company followed this up on March 5, 2026, with its second-generation Blade Battery and upgraded Flash Charging network, which can reportedly reach up to 1.5MW and achieve a 10% to 70% charge in five minutes and 10% to 97% in nine minutes.
XPeng, meanwhile, had already introduced 5C charging with an earlier update to the G9. However, the charging figures from newer megawatt-class systems have since pushed the benchmark much further.
With its 2.25MW system, Geely is now joining that competition with an even higher peak charging capability on paper, although actual charging speeds will still depend on the vehicle, battery temperature, charging infrastructure and other conditions.
