Proton Set To Debut 4 Special Edition Models On 18th Feb

The Persona, Iriz, Exora and Saga are the four Proton models to receive the special edition treatment on Thursday.

Proton has recently teased that it will be introducing Special Edition variants of four cars in its existing lineup. These new enhanced versions of the Persona, Iriz, Exora and Saga are set to be unveiled virtually this Thursday (18th of February) at 11 a.m. on its official Facebook page.

Though Proton itself has yet to officially announce further details on these four new variants of its long-running PIES lineup of cars, the registration of interest page on its website has nevertheless let slip that the four special editions that are to be launched later in the week consist of the Persona Black Edition, Exora Black Edition, Iriz R3 Limited Edition and Saga R3 Limited Edition.

Starting first with the latter two R3 Limited Edition Saga and Iriz models, spy shots that have been floating around the net indicate that these special edition cars will be painted black with yellow highlights. The official colour of Proton’s R3 motorsport division, it has to be said though that many have remarked that these enhanced models would look rather similar to the Saga Anniversary Edition that was launched last year in conjunction to that model’s 35th anniversary.

Then again, the main differences with these R3 Limited Edition cars to the Anniversary Edition are said to be the inclusion of a different set of wheels, not to mention the addition of special decals and emblems that supposedly commemorate Proton’s racing and rallying achievements with these cars. To that end then, the Iriz R3 Limited Edition in particular has also been spied with body decals featuring the number 83. A nod to the competition car that secured a 1-2 finish at the 1,000 km of Sepang endurance race back in 2019.

As for the Persona and Exora Black Edition, the finer details regarding these two models are rather thin on the ground at the moment. Be it as it may be however, much like the name suggests, it is perhaps not hard to guess what exterior colour these special edition cars will probably be painted in.

Moreover, for those expecting a radical redesign of these four ageing Proton models, it is perhaps prudent not to hold one’s breath. That is because the Malaysian automaker has already reiterated that ‘these Special Edition models provide the same level of comfort, safety and handling that are offered in their standard models, except they have now been enhanced in the aesthetics department.’

To those who are indeed looking for a jazzed up Persona, Iriz, Exora or Saga though, bookings for these Special Edition models will be able to be made on the same date and time as the virtual launch on Thursday.

PRESS RELEASE: In light of the tremendous support received from Malaysians, PROTON will be introducing its Special Edition models – the Iriz, Saga, Persona, and Exora. which is set to launch virtually on 18 February 2021 at 11am. Enhanced with unique design elements for both the interior and exterior of these cars, the Special Edition models is here to meet customers’ needs and suits the most discerning lifestyle; owners of these cars will undoubtedly stand out from the crowd.

Malaysians will also be able to place bookings for the Special Edition models on the same date and time. These Special Edition models provide the same level of comfort, safety and handling that are offered in their standard models, except they have now been enhanced in the aesthetics department.

On 9 July last year, PROTON unveiled the Proton Saga Anniversary Edition in conjunction with its 35th anniversary. Since its first rollout in 1985 up till today, different generations of the Proton Saga can be seen everywhere in the streets of Malaysia, proving itself as a popular car model in the nation. Regardless of this, it was still unpredicted when all 1,100 units of the Proton Saga Anniversary Edition were sold out within five days of being launched, which serves as a testament to the desirability of not only the Proton Saga, but also for special edition cars.
