Facelifted Porsche Taycan Now Open For Orders In Malaysia

7 variants of the updated Taycan are available for orders locally, with prices starting from RM 575,000.

In a relatively short span of time since its international debut earlier this year, the facelifted Porsche Taycan has since recently been made available to order over here. Local distributors Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP) are currently to offer 7 variants of this high-performance EV, with prices starting from RM 575,000 as listed in the table below:

Model Price (RM)
Taycan 575,000
Taycan 4S 675,000
Taycan Turbo 905,000
Taycan Turbo S 1,060,000
Taycan 4 Cross Turismo 625,000
Taycan 4S Cross Turismo 700,000
Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo 915,000

While the facelifted Taycan may look virtually indistinguishable from its pre-update predecessor, it actually hosts a raft of improvements that enhances both performance and day-to-day usability.

Starting on the performance front first, the updated Porsche EV nets a new rear-axle motor with up to 80 kW more power than its predecessor on all models, as well as a modified pulse inverter with optimised software and all-wheel-drive strategy. This therefore sees the updated models now accelerate much faster than their predecessors, with the base Taycan and top-tier (for Malaysia at least) Taycan Turbo S now reaching the 100 km/h mark from a standstill in just 4.8 and 2.4 seconds respectively, which makes them 0.6 and 0.4 seconds faster than their predecessors.

On the day-to-day usability front meanwhile, the updated Taycan receives more powerful batteries, a revised thermal management, a next-generation heat pump and a modified recuperation system that bumps maximum recuperation capacity during deceleration from high speeds by more than 30% from 290 kW to up to 400 kW. And what this all essentially translates to is for the longest-range variants of this Porsche EV to now tout the capability of going 678 km on a single charge, which is about 175 km more than what was achieved from its pre-facelift variants.

Aside from the longer range capabilities across the board with these EVs as well, the updated Taycan can also now accept a DC fast charge at up to 320 kW, up 50 kW than before. The fast-charging window of the new performance battery has been significantly expanded too, which means that charging capacities of more than 300 kW can be sustained for up to five minutes.

This all in turn sees that the time required to go from a 10 to an 80% charge in this updated Taycan has been halved compared to its predecessor. The charging time from 10 to 80% took 37 minutes in the first generation car, while it is quoted to take just 18 minutes in this updated version.

Porsche Malaysia also offers Taycan owners exclusive complimentary platinum membership with special charging rates and benefits with Shell Recharge. With the membership, owners can charge their EV at lightning speeds of up to 360 kW High Performance Chargers (HPC) at a discounted rate. Porsche customers also enjoy complimentary 350 kW high performance charging facilities at all Porsche Centres for added convenience.

Getting back to its aforementioned same-look exterior here, this facelifted Taycan actually nets new front wings and the flatter headlights to give an even greater emphasis to its width. Its rear meanwhile features a redesigned light strip, with the option of an illuminated 3D Porsche logo.

All variants of the Taycan also now come as standard with aerodynamically optimised wheels and reduced-rolling-resistance tyres, along with adaptive air suspension (in place of the steel coils for the base spec previously). Active Ride suspension can be ordered as an option for the all-wheel drive versions, as well as Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and rear-wheel steering.

As for the minor changes made within, the Taycan’s user interface has been optimised across all displays and the driver assistance controls have supposedly been made more intuitive to use. Additional interior options that can be had with this Porsche EV in Malaysia includes comfort seats up front (14-Way, Electric) with memory package, as well as a BOSE Surround Sound-System.

“The new all-electric Taycan has been improved in every aspect. With the significantly enhanced range and charging speed, it offers outstanding day-to-day usability. The new Taycan stimulates your senses with its extraordinary performance,” shared Christopher Hunter, Chief Executive Officer, Sime Darby Auto Performance.
