Chery Breaks Ground On Massive Auto Industrial Park In Selangor

This upcoming Chery facility is apparently capable of churning out up to 300,000 cars annually at full capacity.
It seems that Geely and Proton aren’t to be the only one set to open a massive automotive base locally, as Chery has recently also announced that it too has broke ground on a similar project in Hulu Selangor.
Developed in collaboration with Legenda Beringin Holding Sdn Bhd, the upcoming Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park is to specifically be situated within the Beringin High-Tech Auto Valley (Beringin HTA Valley) in Hulu Selangor. Investment and contributions for the project’s development are currently valued at RM 2.2 billion, over a five-year period.
Earmarked to span an area of 200 acres, the Chinese automaker’s upcoming facility will be accounting for a quarter of the total land area within this new industrial complex. The remaining land within Beringin HTA Valley meanwhile is set to be allocated for complementary developments supporting automotive innovation, supply chain operations, vocational training, and technological advancement.
Now according to Chery, this upcoming facility of theirs will feature both a manufacturing plant, as well as an R&D centre. This is to be consistent with the Chinese automaker’s plans to position Malaysia as a regional production hub of its cars for export to neighbouring countries, but also as a development base for its future right-hand drive endeavours.
And just discussing further on the manufacturing side of things, Chery has announced that cars should roll out of the production line come 2026. It is initially targeting an initial production annual capacity of 100,000 units, with the option to eventually expand assembly efforts to a whopping 300,000 vehicles every year.
The facility has been touted to be capable of producing both internal combustion engine models, as well as electrified and fully electric vehicles. The Chinese automaker’s current lineup consists of the ICE Omoda 5, Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro, in addition to the EV Omoda E5.
Chery incidentally has already been assembling its own-brand cars locally for a while now, at Inokom’s plant in Kulim, Kedah. Its sub-brand Jaecoo also has a plant located in Shah Alam, Selangor, with it to currently be churning out J7 (both ICE and PHEV) and Omoda C9 SUV.
