Proton e.MAS 7 Now Finally With Apple CarPlay & Tonneau Cover

This mild update to the Proton e.MAS 7 has also brought with it new colours and new pedestrian warning sounds.

While the newly-facelifted X50 was the main star at Proton this week, there was incidentally another model from the Malaysian marque that got itself an update. Such is as despite only being around for a mere seven months, the all-electric e.MAS 7 has just been lightly titivated as well.

With changes said to be “guided by real owner feedback,” the major headline update for this rather popular EV in Malaysia is that it has finally received both wired and wireless Apple CarPlay integration. Android users however will still need to be patient a while longer, as Android Auto is only expected to arrive in Q4.

Beyond just smartphone mirroring, the underlying Flyme Auto operating system has also been refined with better responsiveness and smoother app integration. There s  broader support for third-party apps as well, with the new additions including Zoom for Cars, izi.TRAVEL and the Vivaldi browser.

Now building on the tech updates, Proton has also improved the e.MAS 7’s low-speed pedestrian warning system with two new sound profiles: ‘Galactic Note’ and ‘Space Walk’. These join the existing ‘Classical’ tone, allowing drivers to personalise the EV’s audible presence according to environment or preference. Once selected, the chosen sound profile is saved in memory and will continue to play upon the next start-up.

Practicality has been enhanced as well, with the e.MAS 7 now finally gaining a tonneau cover as standard equipment. Pro-Net has confirmed that existing owners will also be receiving the cover free of charge, addressing what had been a commonly raised omission.

And finally, Proton has added a new Obsidian Black exterior colour the e.MAS 7’s existing palette. A new exclusive Alabaster White interior trim is now incidentally also available — though only for the Quartz Rose and Turquoise Green Premium variants, and strictly limited to 250 units each.

As per before, the Proton e.MAS 7 is currently available in two variants locally: Prime and Premium. Both variants still feature the same front-mounted ‘12-in-1 Electric Drive System’, outputting 160 kW (218 PS) and 320 Nm of torque, which in turn allows this e-SUV to claim a 0–100 km/h time of 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 175 km/h.

Both variants also continue to be powered by a battery pack comprising Aegis Short Blade cells of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. The Prime comes with a smaller 49.52 kWh battery pack that delivers a WLTP-rated range of 345 km, whereas the Premium nets a larger 60.22 kWh usable capacity unit, extending that figure to 410 km.

There are no changes to pricing with these updates to the e.MAS 7, with the Prime and Premium still costing RM 105,800 and RM 119,800 respectively (inclusive of a RM 4,000 ‘Welcome Benefit’). Pro-Net is also offering a new ‘Power Pack+’ sales bundle, which includes a complimentary 7 kW wallbox home charger (worth RM 1,500), a V2L adaptor (worth RM 500), five years of unlimited internet data (valued at RM 1,800), and a RM 5,000 ‘Power Exchange’ trade-in rebate.
