BYD Kickstarts EV Test Drive Program For MOT Personnel

Ministry Of Transport personnel could experience the full local range of BYD EVs through this six-month program.

BYD Sime Motors has recently formed a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) to advance the nation’s low-carbon mobility agenda. The partnership introduces a six-month program called “Jom Pandu BYD Bersama MOT”, which allows MOT personnel to experience BYD’s complete range of electric vehicles firsthand throughout that time.

As part of this initiative, BYD Sime Motors has provided its full local lineup to MOT, including the Sealion 7 SUV, Seal sedan, Atto 3 Ultra crossover, M6 MPV and the Dolphin hatchback. To further facilitate this transition too, the automotive distributor has, in partnership with Gentari, installed two 22 kW AC chargers at the Ministry’s Putrajaya headquarters.

The official launch ceremony at MOT Putrajaya was presided over by YB Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport, and Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director, Southeast Asia, Sime Motors. Other dignitaries in attendance included Deputy Minister of Transport YB Datuk Haji Hasbi Bin Habibollah, MOT Secretary General YBhg. Dato’ Jana Santhiran Muniayan, BYD Sime Motors General Manager Adeline Lew, and Head of Green Mobility MY-SG at Gentari Green Mobility, Izuan Hafiz.

At the ceremony, Jeffrey Gan stated, “BYD Sime Motors is proud to be at the forefront of this initiative in leading Malaysia’s transition to electric mobility together with the Ministry of Transport. We remain focused on our goal of supporting the Ministry’s carbon emissions reduction efforts. Through this immersive experience, we hope to encourage greater adoption of electric vehicles, not only by the public but also within government mobility use.”

BYD is incidentally Malaysia’s top-selling EV marque at present, with its fully tailpipe-free free lineup actually pipping BMW on the overall sales chart for this part first quarter of 2025. The Chinese automaker has further recently hinted at the possibility of expanding its local lineup to include PHEVs, not to mention the potential for it to soon begin local assembly of its cars over here.
