Bookings For The Luxeed R7 Exceed 30,000 In Just 33 Days

The Luxeed R7 had incidentally accumulated over 6,000 bookings in the first 24 hours since its launch.  

While it is perhaps common knowledge already that the Chinese domestic car market is undoubtably massive, there are always examples that serves as a reminder as to how big it actually is. Like this recent instance of the Luxeed R7 having accumulated over 30,000 non-refundable orders, in its first 33 days on the market.

An all-electric SUV-coupe from Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), a joint venture between Chery and Huawei, the Luxeed R7 incidentally already garnered over 6,000 bookings within the first 24 hours since its order books were initially open last month. Another 14,000 units were promptly spoken for in the subsequent two weeks, with its order books swelling past the 20,000 mark within a fortnight. 

The R7 is Luxeed’s second model after its debut S7 electric sedan, and this large SUV-coupe in essence being the Chinese automaker’s EV alternative to a Cayenne Coupe. Three variants are currently available to order in its domestic market, with prices ranging from 259,800 yuan (RM 160,000) for the single-motor Pro trim to 339,800 yuan (RM 210,000) for the dual-motor Ultra flagship spec. 

Among the cooler things worth highlighting here with this Luxeed is for it to currently be one of the slipperiest SUVs on the market today, as it claims a drag coefficient of just 0.219. And paired with the largest available 100 kWh battery, this R7 can therefore achieve a CLTC-rated range of 802 km on a single charge.  

Built upon the TuLing platform, another cool thing with the R7 is for it to incorporate intelligent vehicle state perception (iVSE) to adapt to varied road conditions. Using the first active cornering control system — which combines through braking, power torque vectoring, and dual-motor four-wheel torque power control — this large e-SUV is claimed to virtually mitigate understeer, with this to be backed up by Luxeed’s claims of it passing the moose test with an almost incredulously high speed of 82.3 km/h.

Though thanks to a 192-line lidar on the roof and Huawei’s QianKun ADS 3.0 driving assistance software suite, the R7 may well be capable of spotting the moose and intervening way before any emergency evasive manoeuvre needs to be undertaken by the driver.  Luxeed is also keen to tout this e-SUV features air suspension and continuous variable damping, for a more comfortable ride. 

Moving along inside now, this Huawei EV expectedly utilises the electronic giant’s Harmony OS 4 operating system to run its 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and 15.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen. Other notable interior accoutrements with the R7 meanwhile includes for it to be available with zero gravity front seat along with electrically adjustable second-row seats, an 8.2-litre fridge in the centre console that can be kept at temperatures between 3ºC and 50°C and a 17-speaker Huawei MagLink sound system.

Oh, and one more thing with the R7 is that in addition to a large 837 litre boot, it also has a 52-litre frunk, which has a novel opening system that sees it open after knocking the bonnet twice when the vehicle is in Park. 

Deliveries of the Max and Ultra trims of R7 kicked off on October 15, with the Pro variant expected to be released on November 15. Six colour options is available with this Luxeed: Phantom Purple, Sunlight Blue, Ceramic White, Deep Space Gray, Gilded Black, and Metropolitan Red; along with three interior hues: White Sand Apricot, Amber Brown, Feather Red, and Truffle Brown.
