BMW Malaysia Debuts Facelifted 6 Series Gran Turismo

This updated BMW is still only available in the sole locally-assembled 630i GT M Sport variant.

BMW Malaysia has recently revealed the facelifted version of its 6 Series Gran Turismo locally. To be thought of as the more unique alternative to the typical 5-er, this niche model is still to be available over here in a sole locally-assembled 630i M Sport trim level.

Kicking off with the changes to its exterior first, this mid-life refresh brings with it a slightly bigger kidney grille up front that is flanked by BMW Laserlight LED headlights. New bumpers front and rear are also to be found on this updated 6-er, with the rears featuring a trapezoidal exhaust pipes and a new diffuser insert that comes part of the standard fit M Sport package.

Speaking of this M Sport package, this sole variant of 630i GT over here is fitted with blue painted M Sport brake callipers hidden behind the 20-inch M light alloy wheels wrapped in mixed tyres and run-flat tyres. To further enhance its what BMW claims to be its ‘performance-oriented, long-distance tourer’ Gran Turismo image too, the active spoiler deploys automatically at 120 km/h and retracts at 80 km/h is still carried over to this updated 6-er.

On the topic of what has been carried over from the pre-facelift car, under the hood of the updated 630i GT M Sport is still the same 2.0 litre turbocharged four-pot that outputs the same 258 hp and 400 Nm of torque as before. Paired with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission that sends drive to the rear wheels, BMW claims that the century sprint can be achieved in a decent 6.5 seconds before topping out at the statutory 250 km/h.

Now moving on inside, this facelifted 6 Series Gran Turismo gains the BMW Live Cockpit Professional system, that in turn adds the twin 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and central infotainment touchscreen running on BMW Operating System 7. Other tech highlights within the cabin worth highlighting includes an M leather steering wheel, powered sports seats, 4-zone automatic climate control, interior ambient lighting, a heads up display, keyless go with BMW Display Key, as well as a two-part panoramic glass roof and a 16-speaker, 464 W Harman Kardon surround sound system.

In terms of safety features meanwhile, standard on the updated 630i GT M Sport are the full suite of active safety tech that comes with the BMW Driving Assistant package, in addition to the Parking Assistant Plus with a 360º surround view camera. Missing however on this facelifted model is air suspension, which has been ditched in favour of passive dampers all round.

Available with a choice of four exterior colours (Bernina Grey Amber Effect, Mineral White, Carbon Black and Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect) and two interior options (Leather ‘Dakota’ Black or Leather ‘Dakota’ Cognac), the facelifted BMW currently retails for RM 417,659.05 while the SST exemption is still in place. Factoring in SST however, the price is set to jump to RM430,839. Both these aforementioned prices nevertheless include a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty and a 5-year/100,000km service package.

This updated 630i GT M Sport is currently able to be previewed at all authorised BMW dealerships nationwide starting today. Bookings (with a reservation deposit of RM 3,000) on the other hand will only begin tomorrow (29th May) on the BMW Shop Online.
