Facelifted BMW 530e And 530i M Sport Previewed Locally

A slightly new look and more tech is to come with the refreshed BMW 530i and 530e M Sport.

BMW Malaysia has recently previewed two facelifted variants of the 530e and 530i M Sport. Bringing with it a slight exterior refresh, as well as a tad bit more interior and safety tech.

Starting with the exterior updates on these mildly updated 5-Series, new on these premium German mid-sized sedans are slimmer LED headlights with a new DRL design that flank an even larger kidney grille than before. A set of redesigned LED tail light clusters, as well as reprofiled front and rear bumpers with larger air intakes are also featured as part of this facelift.

Speaking of the sportier bumpers, standard on these facelifted M Sport badged 5-Series is standard with the M Aerodynamics package. 19-inch M light alloy Y-Spoke 845 M Bi-Colour Jet Black wheels make an appearance too on both variants, not to mention Adaptive Suspension, M Sport brakes with blue-painted M Sport brake callipers with the M designation and trapezoidal tail pipes integrated onto either side of the black rear diffuser.

To differentiate between these two facelifted 5-Series variants, the 530i M Sport features aluminium exterior accents as part of the BMW Individual Exterior Line Aluminium Satinated package, as opposed to the black trim pieces found on the 530e M Sport that comes with the BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line aesthetic pack. The purely petrol-powered model also features BMW Laserlight headlights instead of the more basic Adaptive LED Matrix units fitted to its PHEV counterpart.

Continuing on the subject of the electrified variant and discussing further on its powertrain, the new 530e M Sport gains a useful bump in power courtesy of a new 109 hp eDrive electric motor. Combined power output therefore when the 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission is taken into account is now rated at 292 hp (+40 hp) and 420 Nm of torque, with a 0-100 km/h time of 5.9 seconds (-0.3 s) and an NEDC rated all-electric range of 67 km (+19 km).

As for the 530i M Sport, there has been no revisions made in the powertrain department for this purely petrol-powered variant. Hence the 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder still continues to churn out the same 252 hp and 350 Nm of torque, which is capable of enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.4 seconds before topping out at 250 km/h.

Moving onto the interior updates, both facelifted variants of this German sedan gains a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an equally large central infotainment display running BMW Operating System 7. Included too within this infotainment package is BMW Live Cockpit Professional which adds navigation, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, two USB ports, 4G LTE connectivity and over-the-air update functionality.

Elsewhere within the leather-lined cabin meanwhile, the updated 5-series features keyless-go with interior ambient lighting, four-zone automatic climate control, electric roller blinds for the side windows and contactless tailgate operation courtesy of BMW Comfort Access. It is worth highlighting though that the 530i M Sport does gain slightly more interior kit over the 530e, in the form of BMW Gesture Control, Head-Up Display, BMW Display Key, an electric glass sunroof and Harman Kardon surround sound system.

Additionally, the 530e also loses out on the 530i’s standard Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function. Nevertheless, both variants do come as standard with Lane Departure and Lane Change Warning, Front Collision Alert with Brake Intervention, Rear Collision Prevention and Crossing-Traffic Warning, as well as Park Assistant Plus for autonomous parallel and perpendicular parking.

Prices (with SST exemption included) for the facelifted 530e M Sport starts at RM 343,000.00, whereas the more kitted-out 530i M Sport costs from RM 396,000.00. Both variants come with 5-Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty with Free Scheduled Service Programme and are now available for registration of interests at the BMW Shop Online.

PRESS RELEASE: BMW Malaysia today previewed the New BMW 530e M Sport and the New BMW 530i M Sport – the upcoming additions to the premium automaker’s portfolio of locally-assembled premium executive sedans in the local market.

The upcoming introduction of these two new variants in Malaysia also signifies our commitment towards driving and leading change in the local automotive industry – especially in the electrified segment. With our continued investments into electromobility here, we will also further expand our portfolio of locally-assembled vehicles that are valued, both by BMW enthusiasts around the region, and our loyal customers in Malaysia as well.”

The New BMW 5 Series – arriving in both the plug-in hybrid and petrol variants, continues to drive the BMW Group’s momentum of success in the world of premium executive sedans, having won the “Car of the Year” award presented by ‘Auto, Motor und Sport’ Magazine and ‘What Car?’ Magazine in year 2020.

This momentum is mirrored locally as the latest variants of the BMW 5 Series – now complete with the latest-generation driver assistance systems and a redesigned appearance, will also enter the premium automaker’s impressive portfolio of vehicles that are proudly assembled in Malaysia.

Leading change – the New BMW 530e M Sport and BMW 530i M Sport.

The most successful premium executive model in the BMW portfolio is unveiled in two new variants, completing the seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series with comprehensive engineering and design modifications.

Complete with the M Aerodynamics package, the new variants are now fitted with larger kidney grilles and slimmer headlights with a new daytime running light design. The New BMW 530e M Sport comes with Adaptive LED Matrix headlights, in addition to the standard LED headlights, while the New BMW 530i M Sport is equipped with the BMW Laserlight. Both include the anti-glare BMW Selective Beam high-beam assistant with turning lights, and adaptive cornering function.

The front and rear bumpers on both variants are also redesigned with larger air intakes, alongside new LED taillight elements in the signature BMW L-shape. For the first time, the light source is integrated directly into the taillight’s outermost layer, maximising the 3D effect.

Pure dynamism also exudes from the new 19-inch M light alloy Y-Spoke 845 M Bi-Colour Jet Black wheels with both mixed and runflat tyres. The new variants also feature Adaptive Suspension and the M Sport brake with blue-painted M Sport brake callipers with M designation. Along the rear of the new variants are double-sided exhaust tailpipe finishers with a trapezoidal design and a distinctive diffuser insert.

The power of choice: electrifyingly charged and powerfully efficient.

The new variants are equipped with the formidable inline 4-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo 2-litre petrol engine, with the New BMW 530e M Sport featuring the latest generation of the BMW eDrive electric motor. The Eight-Speed Steptronic transmission system also comes as standard for both the new variants.

The electric motor can be fully-charged with a BMW i Wallbox in approximately 3 hours and 35 minutes, or under 6 hours with a conventional main socket via a standard charging cable. The driving mode in the electrified variant can be personalised via the eDrive button in the centre console. The standard AUTO eDRIVE setting enables all-electric driving up to a speed of 110 km/h.
