BMW 320i Sport Nets Infotainment Upgrade For RM 4k More

The 320i Sport locally now comes as standard with BMW Live Cockpit Professional.

Just a year after arriving on our shores, BMW Malaysia has already given the 320i Sport a mild update. With mild being the operative word here, as the only thing new with this base-model 3-er is the addition of its Live Cockpit Professional infotainment system.

An update that brings the 320i Sport more in line with its more premium offerings within the wider local 3-Series lineup, the BMW Live Cockpit Professional system introduced this time round brings with it a fully-digital 12.3-inch instrument display that replaces a 5.1-inch multi-info display with analogue dials from before. Also new is a larger 10.25-inch central infotainment display, which succeeds the standard 8.8-inch unit fitted to the car previously.

Complementing these larger screens too is the inclusion of BMW Operating System 7, adding a more modern interface with larger tiles, over-the-air software updates and the voice-command Intelligent Personal Assistant feature. That however does sum up the updates this time round, as the rest of the 320i Sport remains the same as when it first launched a year ago.

On the outside for instance, the 320i Sport still features its Sport Line exterior package. Other exterior features like adaptive LED headlights, LED taillights, LED fog lights and 18-inch V-spoke style 780 two-tone alloy wheels are similarly retained too.

Moving on under the hood meanwhile, the 320i Sport continues to be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot that outputs 184 PS and 300 Nm of torque. Paired to an eight-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox that drives the rear wheels, BMW claims for it to take 7.1 seconds to complete the century sprint and climb onward to a top speed of 235 km/h.

Speaking of driving, this updated 320i Sport still retains the Driving Assistant and Parking Assistant suite of safety features. Much to no one’s surprise too, the Vernasca leather interior of this base-level 3-er is still to be topped off by various luxury accoutrements like a tri-zone climate control system, power-adjustable front seats, a six speaker sound system, and the comfort access hands-free tailgate.

What is perhaps a surprise though is that with this new infotainment upgrade, the price of the 320i Sport locally has now crept up by RM 4,000 to an SST exempt price of RM 243,883.65 (with the extended warranty and service package included). Seeing however that this particular locally-assembled spec of 3-Series was the best-selling model of BMW Malaysia last year, the slight price hike for the better tech is probably not going to be a very big issue for many prospective buyers.
