The driver of the Porsche allegedly lost control before colliding with the Toyota MPV.
An anaesthetist has unfortunately lost his life behind the wheel after his 911 skidded and ultimately collided with an oncoming Toyota Vellfire. Identified as Dr Noor Zairul Muhamad, the 50-year-old driver of the 911 died at the scene of the accident that occurred on the Jalan Kluang-Batu Pahat trunk road at around 9.00 a.m yesterday (22nd May 2021).
According to Batu Pahat district police chief Ismail Dollah, preliminary investigations regarding this fatal accident has revealed that the deceased was travelling alone from his home in Batu Pahat towards Sri Gading and was believed to have lost control of the Porsche through a corner. This therefore set the 911 into a skid, which then saw it hit a lamp post on the road divider before flew across onto oncoming traffic and eventually collided head-on with a white Toyota Vellfire.
Despite the massive damage inflicted on (both the front and rear of) the Vellfire though, the 31-year-old driver behind the wheel managed to only sustain moderate injuries to the head. He is reportedly currently being treated at Pantai Hospital.
As for the driver of the Porsche meanwhile, it reportedly took 10 minutes for the rescue personnel on the scene to extricate the man behind the wheel of the overturned 911. A total of 16 first responders and 4 vehicles were dispatched to the scene, but the anaesthetist had unfortunately succumbed to the severe injuries incurred and passed away at the scene of the accident.
Speaking further regarding this accident, Ismail said that the body of the deceased was taken to the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital in Batu Pahat, for an autopsy. He also added that this accident is currently being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
It is still unclear at this stage as to what exactly caused the driver of the Porsche to lose control, especially considering that it was a clear day with dry roads. Seeing however as the force of the crash had managed to completely squash the passenger cell of the 911, it is probably fair to say that the Stuggart stallion was travelling at a not insignificant rate of speed.
Taking a closer look at the crumpled wreck of the 911, there is really not a straight panel left on it. In fact, the force of the collision was so severe that it had managed to twist the chassis of the Porsche to the point where its front right wheel is now permanently up in the air.
So the lesson to take away here from this unfortunate incident is perhaps one of taking it a little bit easier when driving one’s Porsche (or any supercar for that matter) on public roads. While the 911 may have lost some widow maker infamy with each successive generation, this deadly accident here still nevertheless serves as a rather grim reminder that it can, and will, bite if the driver is being just that little bit too frisky with it.
