Two New V12 Lamborghini Models To Come In 2021
While electrification is on the horizon, Lamborghini is still playing with its V12 for the present.
Lamborghini has recently announced that it will be launching two new models powered by its V12 engine this year. Coming ahead of news that the Italian supercar manufacturer managed to eke out its highest-ever profitability in 2020, these two new upcoming models is a larger part of the automaker’s strategy to continue that growth into this year.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic that forced a 70-day production stoppage in the spring of last year, Lamborghini had still managed to deliver a total of 7,430 cars in 2020. The second-best sales year for the company to date, this number is just shy of the all-time sales record set in 2019 of 8,205 units delivered to customers worldwide.
Speaking of customers worldwide, a detailed breakdown of the Lamborghinis sold in 2020 shows that the United States is still the biggest market for the marque with 2,224 cars delivered over there last year. This is then followed surprisingly by Germany at 607 cars, then China (604), Japan (600), United Kingdom (517) and its home market of Italy (347).
Looking at the fiscal health of the company more closely meanwhile, Stephan Winkelmann, newly reinstated president & CEO of Automobile Lamborghini has announced that the automaker has ‘ended fiscal year 2020 with a turnover of 1.61 billion euros, just 11% down from 2019’. Profitability however was at a record rate last year, due mainly in part to the growing demand by customers wanting to increasingly customise and personalise their cars.
Moving forward into this year, Lamborghini is quietly confident that 2021 will be a bumper year for the company in all commercial aspects. That is because deliveries within the first two months of the year have already surpassed ‘those of the pre-pandemic periods’.
Moreover, Lamborghini has touted that orders placed thus far ‘already cover nine months of production’. Seeing that there is only a 3 car sales different this year too, the automaker also expects that China will overtake Germany and be its second biggest sales market by the end of this year.
As for the two new V12 models that are to come, Lamborghini is still rather coy on the details. Mr. Winkelmann however has let it slip that one of these two models will feature the electrified powertrain featured previously on the Sián FKP 37, and it will also most likely be a limited run car.
That therefore leaves the details of the other model still shrouded in mystery. So it could likely be yet another special edition Aventador, or just perhaps an all-new Aventador successor as like the last hurrah for the purely petrol-powered V12?
PRESS RELEASE: In a year of significant challenge such as 2020, marked by the spread of the pandemic worldwide, Automobili Lamborghini responded to the situation with great energy, flexibility and determination, recording positive commercial and financial performance. The most notable financial result is the achievement of the highest-ever profitability.
Stephan Winkelmann, President & CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, commented: “Our immediate responsiveness, an ideal model mix, and the growing demand for customization of our products pushed profitability to the highest levels. In such a difficult year, the brand demonstrated great strength and continued its growing appeal, bucking the trend in the global luxury industry.”
2020 was the second-best year ever for Lamborghini in terms of both turnover and number of cars delivered. Lamborghini ended fiscal year 2020 with a turnover of 1.61 billion euros, just 11% down from 2019. This is attributed to the decline caused by the 70-day production stoppage in the spring, in compliance with Italian government directives and to protect the health of workers during the initial emergency phase. The company demonstrated prompt reaction and flexibility in responding to the emergency period, through careful cost management and ensuring continuity in the launch plan.
In 2020 Lamborghini delivered 7,430 cars worldwide, a figure representing the second-best sales result ever following the record set in 2019 with 8,205 cars delivered. The United States remained the top market with 2,224 cars delivered, followed by Germany (607), Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao (604), Japan (600), United Kingdom (517) and Italy (347).
Winkelmann added: “2021 opened with a very positive outlook: deliveries in the first two months of this year have already surpassed those of the previous pre-pandemic period, and the orders placed thus far already cover nine months of production.”
This year the company expects further growth with China jumping to second place in its core markets.
The new year was inaugurated by the commercial launch of the latest model unveiled by Lamborghini at the end of 2020, the Huracán STO – Super Trofeo Omologata a road-homologated super sports car inspired by the racing heritage of Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s one-make race series with Huracán EVO Super Trofeo, as well as its three-time 24 Hours of Daytona-winning and two-time 12 Hours of Sebring-winning Huracán GT3 EVO.
This year, the Huracán STO will be joined by two further new products, based on the iconic V12.
