Chery Group Targets 70% Local Assembly Share Overseas By 2027

Chery Group has outlined its global expansion plans, focusing on local manufacturing, electrification and future mobility technologies.

The company presented its strategy at the Chery International User Summit 2026, highlighting plans to strengthen its presence across international markets.

In the first half of 2026, Chery ranked ninth among global automotive manufacturers, recording cumulative sales of 1.36 million vehicles. It also maintained its position as China’s leading passenger vehicle exporter for 23 consecutive years.

Chery also reported a 145% year-on-year increase in New Energy Vehicle (NEV) sales between January and September 2026. The growth came from its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) lineups.

Overseas localisation plans

Local manufacturing remains a key part of Chery’s international expansion strategy. Locally assembled vehicles accounted for 41% of its overseas operations in 2025.

The company aims to increase this figure to 70% by 2027. Its approach combines manufacturing facilities with local workforce development, supply chain partnerships and cooperation with regional institutions.

Chery also plans to expand its overseas research and development network. The company previously operated 16 overseas R&D centres and is working towards establishing 26 worldwide.

The planned network includes locations in Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Spain and Germany. These centres are intended to help Chery better understand local requirements and customer expectations.

Electrification and future technologies

Chery plans to introduce Hyper Second Charging (HSC) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technologies from 2027.

The planned rollout includes markets such as the United Kingdom, Spain and Thailand. However, the company has not provided further technical specifications or detailed deployment timelines in the announcement.

HSC and V2G form part of Chery’s wider investment in electrification and intelligent mobility.

AiMOGA robotics applications

Chery also highlighted the potential applications of robotics technology developed under its AiMOGA initiative.

The company expects these technologies to serve several sectors, including commercial services, healthcare, public services, home assistance and manufacturing.

These developments form part of Chery’s broader strategy to expand beyond conventional vehicle manufacturing and into other mobility-related technologies.
