Bentley has officially unveiled the all-new Torcal in London, introducing its fourth model line and, more importantly, the brand’s first fully electric vehicle (EV).
Designed, engineered and built in Crewe, UK, the Torcal combines Bentley’s familiar luxury and craftsmanship with a fully electric powertrain. It will be offered in two versions from launch, consisting of the standard Torcal and the sportier Torcal S.
The standard model produces 821 PS and 1,194 Nm, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds before reaching a top speed of 250 km/h.
The Torcal S takes things further, producing up to 888 PS and 1,350 Nm with Launch Control activated. It can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds, with a top speed of 260 km/h.
Both versions use a pair of permanent magnet synchronous electric motors, while an 800V, 113 kWh battery provides up to 600 km of WLTP range.
Charging from 10 to 80% takes around 16 minutes when using a 400 kW DC charger. Bentley says this can add around 161 km of range in seven minutes, making the Torcal more practical for longer journeys.
The Torcal also gets Bentley’s most advanced chassis technology to date, including fully active suspension and adaptive two-valve dampers. The system can independently adjust each damper to respond to road and driver inputs, while electronic all-wheel steering is fitted as standard.
The rear wheels can steer by up to five degrees, helping reduce the turning circle to 11.1 metres. Bentley says the Torcal is designed to offer a mix of long-distance comfort, sporty handling and off-road composure.
Visually, the Torcal introduces a new design direction for Bentley. It features a low and sleek SUV shape, a long wheelbase, short overhangs and an illuminated diamond grille inspired by Bentley models of the past.
Inside, the cabin continues the brand’s focus on traditional materials, but with a bigger emphasis on sustainability. Customers can choose from leather, wool, veneer and aluminium, including a new 100% Merino wool automotive fabric developed with British textile company Fox Brothers.
The Torcal also introduces new interior finishes such as Ombré Walnut by Mulliner, which uses responsibly sourced walnut off-cuts, along with Sunburst Aluminium.
Technology is naturally a big part of the new Bentley, with curved OLED displays, facial recognition, an augmented reality head-up display and advanced driver assistance systems. The car uses 25 radars, sensors and cameras to monitor its surroundings, while remote parking and automated parking assistance are also available.
Interestingly, Bentley has also created a dedicated soundscape for the Torcal. Instead of simply trying to imitate an engine, the Bentley Dynamic Symphony was created using real instruments inspired by the rhythm of Bentley’s 6¾-litre V8.
With the Torcal, Bentley is adding an entirely electric model to its existing ICE and hybrid range, while attempting to retain the comfort, performance and craftsmanship expected from the British luxury brand.
