Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has previewed two important additions to its upcoming lineup in Singapore, giving a closer look at both its next-generation electric SUV and a new electrified internal-combustion model
The all-new electric Mercedes-Benz GLC and Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 AMG Line represent two different approaches to the brand’s future powertrain strategy. While the GLC is built around a dedicated electric architecture, the CLA 200 combines a petrol engine with an integrated electric motor and is being locally assembled in Pekan, Pahang.
All-New Electric Mercedes-Benz GLC
The all-new electric GLC brings Mercedes-Benz’s globally best-selling SUV into the electric era, using a purpose-developed electric architecture. The GLC 300 4MATIC electric produces 310kW (421hp) and offers up to 616km of WLTP range, while its 800-volt system can add up to 255km of range in 10 minutes.
The SUV will be offered in GLC 300 4MATIC electric AVANTGARDE and GLC 300 4MATIC electric AMG Line Plus variants. Its design introduces a new illuminated grille featuring 942 backlit polycarbonate dots, while the cabin gets Mercedes-Benz’s 99.3cm MBUX HYPERSCREEN.
The longer 2,972mm wheelbase provides additional cabin space, with 570 litres of boot capacity, expanding to 1,740 litres with the rear seats folded, plus a 128-litre frunk.
Power comes from an 85kWh usable battery, with DC charging supported at up to 320kW and AC charging at up to 22kW. Mercedes-Benz says up to 255km of WLTP range can be recovered in 10 minutes.
The electric GLC also introduces a TERRAIN driving mode for dirt and gravel roads, while its extensive driver assistance package includes up to 10 cameras, five radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors.
Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 AMG Line
Alongside the electric GLC, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia also previewed the locally assembled CLA 200 AMG Line, giving buyers an alternative to the fully electric CLA already introduced
The CLA 200 uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electrified eight-speed dual-clutch transmission featuring an integrated electric motor. It produces 184hp and 330Nm of system output, with 0–100km/h taking 8.0 seconds and a top speed of 232km/h.
Mercedes-Benz claims fuel consumption of around 5.0 litres/100km or below, making it the brand’s most efficient internal-combustion vehicle in its segment. At urban speeds, the CLA can drive using electric power alone, while its electric motor enables coasting at up to around 100km/h and energy recuperation across all eight gears, recovering up to 25kW.
The CLA 200 closely follows the styling of its electric counterpart, featuring AMG Line exterior treatment, 19-inch AMG wheels, MULTIBEAM LED headlights, panoramic roof and an illuminated radiator grille. Inside, the MBUX Superscreen combines a 10.25-inch driver display with 14-inch central and passenger screens.
The locally assembled CLA 200 AMG Line is available for pre-booking at an estimated RM275,000, with the first 100 customers receiving passes to the upcoming Mercedes-AMG F1 Party.
Together, the two models show Mercedes-Benz taking a dual approach to electrification, with the electric GLC pushing further into battery-powered mobility while the CLA 200 offers a more conventional petrol-based alternative with significant electric assistance.
