Why The Isuzu D-MAX Could Be the Ultimate Workhorse

For Malaysian businesses that depend on a pick-up truck every day, practicality matters just as much as performance. Isuzu Malaysia has responded to that demand with a new addition to its D-MAX range that combines a traditional single-cab workhorse layout with something previously unavailable in Malaysia — an automatic transmission paired with 4X4 capability.
Earlier this year, Isuzu Malaysia refreshed its popular D-MAX range with a new powertrain. The new D-MAX introduces an all-new 2.2 litre turbo diesel 4-cylinder engine matched to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
But arguably the more interesting development is the D-MAX 2.2L TD Single Cab Auto. It gives Malaysian business owners their first-ever Single Cab pick-up with both an automatic transmission and 4X4 drivetrain.

More Space for the Job
The Single Cab configuration offers a major practical advantage: a longer and more useful load bed. With additional space for goods, machinery and equipment, businesses can potentially carry more in a single trip. The larger bed also provides greater flexibility for fitting custom service bodies.
Adding 4X4 capability makes the package even more useful. Whether operating on worksites, plantations or rough terrain, owners get a combination of increased carrying utility and off-road capability.

At the heart of this D-MAX is Isuzu’s new RZ4F-TC turbodiesel engine, which builds upon the company’s proven 1.9L engine. The 2.2L unit delivers a 56% improvement in low-end response, with 255Nm of torque available from as low as 1,000RPM.
High-pressure 250 MPa fuel injection and optimised aerodynamics also contribute to efficiency, with the 2.2L engine offering up to a 5% improvement in fuel consumption.

Designed to Go Further Between Refuelling
For businesses covering long distances, fuel range can be just as important as outright power. The D-MAX comes with a 76-litre fuel tank, while its Idle Stop-Start (ISS) system automatically shuts the engine down when stopped at traffic lights to help reduce fuel consumption in urban driving.
The new powertrain has already demonstrated its real-world range. It recently completed a demanding six-day journey covering 10 Isuzu dealerships across Peninsular Malaysia on a single tank of fuel.
The journey covered an impressive 1,756 km, with approximately 5% fuel still remaining in the tank.
Helping achieve this efficiency is the new 8-speed automatic transmission. Its additional ratios allow the engine to remain within its torque band more effectively, while the transmission itself provides smoother and quicker gear changes. At highway speeds, the additional gearing also contributes to quieter cruising.
The powertrain carries a Euro 5 exhaust emission rating, making it Isuzu’s greenest powertrain.

Built for More Than Tarmac
Efficiency isn’t the only area where the new D-MAX has been upgraded. The Single Cab Auto 4X4 also introduces Rough Terrain Mode, Isuzu’s off-road traction control algorithm designed to make driving through dirt, mud and rough terrain easier for the driver.
The system works alongside hardware including Isuzu’s Terrain Command 4×4 system and Rear Differential Lock. Combined with high ground clearance and an 800 mm water-wading depth, the D-MAX is equipped to handle environments ranging from demanding worksites to hilly plantations.

This combination of software and hardware gives the D-MAX a level of off-road versatility that goes beyond what would normally be expected from a basic commercial pick-up.
Simple, Tough and Properly Equipped
Inside, the Single Cab cabin remains rugged and straightforward, but it doesn’t completely sacrifice modern conveniences. The focus is on durability while retaining the essentials that make daily operation easier.
Equipment includes responsive power steering, a Bluetooth-enabled FM radio, an auto up/down power window for the driver, climate control and tilt-and-telescopic steering adjustment.

The exterior has also received some attention. A body-coloured bumper and facelifted grille give the Single Cab a more upmarket appearance and bring it closer visually to the rest of the D-MAX line-up.
The standard white exterior isn’t the only option either, with a silver paint colour also available.
A Practical Fleet Choice
For businesses looking for a dependable workhorse, the D-MAX 2.2L TD Single Cab Auto brings together the features that matter most: load-carrying practicality, 4X4 capability, improved efficiency and the convenience of an automatic transmission.
It also comes with a 5-year/150,000km warranty, while Isuzu Malaysia is offering 2 years of free Periodic Maintenance Service for a limited time.
