GWM Is Now Malaysia’s 11th Top-Selling Automaker

GWM Malaysia delivered 3,166 vehicles during the first six months of 2026.

While perhaps not yet as ubiquitous on Malaysian roads as the likes of BYD and Omoda Jaecoo, GWM has nevertheless been quietly building momentum over the past few years. And that steady growth has now culminated in the Chinese automaker recording its strongest-ever first half locally, with 3,166 vehicles delivered between January and June 2026, up a healthy 42.4% year-on-year.

After shifting 1,294 vehicles in the first quarter, GWM then delivered a further 1,872 units in Q2, representing a healthy 44.7% quarter-on-quarter increase. Those strong results were enough to propel the brand into 11th place among Malaysia’s best-selling automotive marques.

Haval H6 PHEV

Now leading the charge was unsurprisingly the Haval H6 HEV, which remained GWM Malaysia’s best-selling model after deliveries climbed from 656 units in Q1 to 895 units in Q2. The recently launched Wey G9 Hi4 plug-in hybrid luxury people mover also enjoyed a strong quarter, growing from 421 to 707 units while retaining its crown as Malaysia’s best-selling officially distributed luxury MPV.

Another interesting nugget from GWM’s sales summary was the Ora Good Cat. Fresh from receiving a facelift late last year, the cutesy EV nearly doubled its quarterly sales after posting an impressive 93% increase from Q1 to Q2 2026.

Looking ahead, GWM Malaysia appears keen to keep that momentum going. Following their public debut at KLIMS 2026, both the Ora 5 HEV and Haval H7 Hi4 PHEV are set to arrive in local showrooms soon, while the recently launched Tank 300 HEV is expected to continue riding the growing wave of hybrid demand.

Beyond new products, GWM Malaysia has also announced a strategic partnership with Touch ‘n Go to enhance the ownership experience. From 1 August 2026 onwards, every new GWM vehicle booked and registered in Peninsular Malaysia will come fitted with, or bundled alongside, a Touch ‘n Go x GWM branded RFID tag as standard. The initiative aims to provide customers with a seamless toll payment experience while supporting Malaysia’s future Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) implementation — a rather thoughtful addition considering none of our national automakers have offered anything similar yet.

And if one may perhaps have been eyeing a new GWM, the automaker will also be running a nationwide Merdeka and Hari Malaysia sales campaign from 1 August until 30 September 2026. Buyers can enjoy savings of up to RM30,000 on selected models, as well as five years of free scheduled maintenance, while six lucky customers stand the chance to each win up to RM 1,000 worth of Touch ‘n Go toll cashback.
