Volvo Opens Local Bookings For Its ES90 All-Electric Sedan

This locally-assembled all-electric Volvo flagship sedan will make its Malaysian debut later this month.
Volvo Malaysia is certainly starting 2026 on a strong note, having just officially opened order books for its new ES90 all-electric sedan. Interested customers can now place their bookings via the brand’s official website, with the first 100 units secured between now and March 31st 2026 eligible for a 2% early-bird incentive.

The ES90 is set to make its official Malaysian debut later this month, with full specifications and pricing to be announced at launch. The fact that the ES90 will be locally assembled from the outset is worth nevertheless highlighting, as this allows the electric sedan to benefit from prevailing tax exemptions, which should translate into a more competitive price point than fully imported rivals.
First unveiled globally in early 2025, the ES90 marks Volvo’s take on the increasingly popular raised sedan silhouette (first popularised by the Peugeot 408). As its name suggests, the ES90 sits firmly in the large sedan segment, measuring 4,999 mm in length, which is 30 mm longer than the outgoing S90. Its wheelbase has also been stretched to 3,100 mm, representing a 159 mm increase over its predecessor.

Design-wise, the ES90 adopts the familiar Volvo EV aesthetic, with clean, understated surfaces paired with distinctive lighting signatures. Up front, the brand’s pixelated Thor’s Hammer LED headlights take centre stage, while the rear features C-shaped LED tail lamps framing a relatively short rump. Additional LED light strakes flank both sides of the rear glass, and keen-eyed observers will also spot the small oblong module perched at the front edge of the roof, discreetly housing the car’s LIDAR sensor.

Volvo has described the ES90 as one of the most technically advanced cars it has produced to date, a claim backed by its underlying technology. The ES90 is the first Volvo model to feature a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin setup as part of the brand’s Superset technology stack, making it the most powerful Volvo yet in terms of core computing capacity.
What most owners will likely notice more is the interior, highlighted by a leather-lined cabin featuring a 14.5-inch portrait-oriented central touchscreen and a nine-inch digital instrument display. Other luxury accoutrements include a 25-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system, a massaging driver’s seat, powered and reclining rear seats, soft-closing doors and an electrochromic panoramic sunroof.

As for the powertrain, industry chatter suggests Malaysia will receive only the single-motor, rear-wheel-drive variant. This version is paired with a 92 kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery, producing 333 PS and 480 Nm of torque. Performance sees the ES90 sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, while range is rated at up to 650 km on the WLTP cycle.
The ES90 also rides on an 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling DC fast charging at up to 350 kW. This allows the battery to be replenished from 10 to 80% in just 20 minutes, and a gain 300 km of driving range in just 10 minutes. AC charging in turn is capped at 11 kW, meaning a full charge will take approximately eight hours with the 92 kWh battery.

Beyond simply adding another EV to its local line-up, the ES90 also marks an important step for Volvo in Malaysia, becoming the brand’s first fully electric sedan to be assembled locally. Its arrival is also timely, coming as Volvo marks 60 years of presence in the country and reinforcing its long-standing commitment to the Malaysian market.
Sharing her thoughts on the milestone, Patricia Yaw, Sales and Marketing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia, said: “This year, as we mark 60 years since Volvo established its presence in Malaysia, it is especially meaningful to commemorate this milestone with the local assembly of the Volvo ES90, our first fully electric sedan. Built on six decades of experience, customer insight and ongoing innovation, the ES90 reflects how far we have grown and evolved as a brand. Most importantly, it represents our lasting commitment to Malaysian customers who have supported and inspired us over the years.”
