Meet The Manhart MH2 700 II: A BMW M2 With 728 Horsepower!
More impressively too is that Manhart extracted those 700+ horses from the stock M2 straight-six.
With a healthy 473 hp and 550 Nm of torque being churned out from its S58 twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six, the G87 BMW M2 is not what many will classify as being underpowered. Though it seems that the nutters at Manhart has begged to differ, as it has recently revealed its own modified of this Bavarian sports car, with over 700 horses crammed under its carbon fibre hood!
Dubbed the Manhart MH2 700 II, its model name is to be slightly misleading as there is instead 728 horsepower on tap. And for those who are good with their supercar top trumps, you’ll probably realise that this modded M2 now makes as much power as some top-flight metal like a Ferrari F12 or a Lamborghini Aventador.
Manhart further promises here that this M2 now outputs a herculean 900 Nm of torque too, 350 more than what it left the factory with. Though perhaps most impressive of all regarding its engine is that all that additional oomph comes from basically a few rather modest mods, with the block and its internals to still supposedly be stock BMW stuff.
Now the mods made under the hood of this MH2 700 II encompasses a carbon air intake, plus an additional Manhart MHtronik powerbox control unit or remapping of the factory engine electronics. This is to then be paired with an in-house stainless steel flap exhaust system, which for road approval sake (in Germany at least) could be had in combination with a sports downpipe including a 200-cell HJS catalytic converter and four 110-millimetre tailpipes.
Rather intriguingly, Manhart has yet to reveal exactly how fast this 700+ horsepower BMW M2 actually is. It is nevertheless expected that this modded monster will likely shave a good chunk off the already impressive 4.0 second century sprint time the stock car can achieve, with it to likely storm past the factory bimmer’s 285 km/h top speed as well.
Remarkably, the German tuning firm is on hand to offer more extreme performance mods for the M2 too, to satisfy ‘customers for whom the power of the presented MH2 700 II is not enough’ The exact specifications Stage 2 and Stage 3 upgrades are unfortunately on a need-to-know basis though, but one could reasonably postulate that Manhart could well come up with an M2 that breaches the 1,000 hp barrier.
What is perhaps slightly more scary meanwhile is that at least on this example pictured here, its brake system is unchanged from stock apart from the champagne-coloured paintwork on the callipers. Manhart however does apparently offer a selection of upgraded stoppers, which should be considered by anyone willing to actually unleash all 700 horses under the hood of this M2.
Similarly, Manhart also offers a selection of suspension upgrades to help this BMW go round corners that little bit better. The customer has the choice between KW coilover springs, or a Variant 4 setup from the same company.
In rounding up the changes Manhart has made to the M2, the MH2 700 II nets a bunch of carbon add-on parts to give it a more menacing aesthetic. This includes carbon inserts for the front apron and side skirts, as well as a carbon bonnet, kidneys, front spoiler, diffuser, underbody panelling and a carbon huge rear wing by Alpha-N to compliment the champagne-coloured decal set.
Last but not least, the interior of this modded M2 has been upgraded with a roll bar, a Manhart-branded seat covers and floor mats, in addition to a set of Schroth harness belts for the front sports seats.
